I got in a few good matches this weekend!
It's still more fun than MH although I have no complaints about MH.
One player asked me how I "appear to fly thru the map".
"Use the XLoc, Luke", I told him.
He hung in there inspite of repeated slaughtering and held his own.
Good to see new players who are good sports and it's nice to help out a noob!

That is SOOO Good to hear Fuzz! :P
I love these newbie stories!
Especially about the ones that want to learn to play and stick in there!

Newbie stories are great to hear and I especially like you teaching the rookies.
Starting a newbie off on the right start will help him/her in the long run.
And it's that friendly gesture that will keep newbies coming back.
It's something that the old time redeemer player never had...help and the
initiative to get better.

Wrong! The old timers gave more help than anyone ever and well some players ran with it and others didn't. There is no wrong way to play when having fun. You can only play wrong if you are really trying to win.

I never got any technique help from any old timers.
Then again 5 to 10 years ago most redeemer servers used only the small generic stock maps.
And most of them are repetitious in play...you either spray or loop of poop at spawn points.
So I guess there wasn't much to learn back then and/or help was minimal?
Either way, with the addition of larger maps and newer redeemer mods technique help is an advantage.

MEAT, you were/are an "old" player - you "ran with it".

Back then, yes, help was available like Hermskii said.
Why, they even had whole web pages devoted to helping newbie Redeemer players with techniques, etc.
In fact, one "OLD" page (and site) is still up...
Here  Redeemer University
And I have updated it quite a while back on my site as well...
Here  Playing Redeemer Arena
But, way back, we were ALL Newbies to Redeemer Arena.
We had to play and learn for the most part on our own. :?
Techniques and styles were developed, and different players did their own thing.
Oh yes, there was a lot to learn and even find out on our own sometimes. :P

Yeah I remember that page Redeemer University...I found it about a year after I'd been playing.
In fact, I use to criticize half the stuff on that page because spraying was not in my vocabulary.
However, again spraying is the technique of choice for most of those generic small repetitious maps.
But I really shouldn't say I didn't get any help...Hermskii showed me the translocator
and I kind of "ran with it".
Other then that no one really stood out as any help...not like I'm providing to most newbies.
Newbies are easy to spot and I'm the first one to offer help.
I'm also the first one to offer a regular/old timer help if they ask for it.

Yes, tell us! :P
No, wait, let me guess - it was Hermskii standing there as a practice dummy waiting for you to hit him.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! And we have a winnerrrrr! OK MEAT, now tell everyone about the first time you scored. UT has nothing to do with this question. I ask because I'm sure you took pictures and well I have enabled the attachment feature here. Please don't include any shots that you may be in. You know...to protect your true identity. Yeahhh. Thanks!
