Actually,
Actually, I can not overcome the filename issues as of yet. I need the maps to be reworked so that when they refer to a required file, they refer to one that is spelled properly using the same same case as the same file used in many other maps. I'm stuck. I'm not a mapper but I am looking into a way to have 2 files with the same name on the same redirect server at the same time. If I can do that, then all issues will be solved as far as this issue goes. Later!
~Peace~

ALSO, I've a pretty clever idea up my sleave to prevent file mismatches, an idea that I have proposed to Herm in the past, but here it goes again.
When a mapper makes a map, let's say this new map shall be called MountainEscape. And let's imagine that this mapper throws together some custom textures and imports them all into a .utx(texture) file. Naturally, the average mapper is going to name the texture file something like as follows: "Mountain.utx." But "Mountain.utx" is a popular name for .utx files. What do we do to make sure none of us encounter a file mismatch?
This:
When a mapper makes a map with custom textures, musics, and sounds, he needs to keep a notepad handy to correspond the individual UT files to more unique file names. This is what a mappers file list should look like:
Map= MH-MountainEscape.unr
Texture= rsrfui33.utx
Music= 4fje7s.umx
Sound= jdhy34s.uax
Getting the idea? Good.
And one more thing. To make mapping and map redirecting/adding more efficient, we need to have a universal naming system.
If you make a map, that MAY have some errors, name it something like this: "MH-MountainEscapeBETA1.unr"
And the next BETA version you make should be named "...BETA2.unr"
And so forth.
DO NOT make a map, name it "MH-MountainEscape.unr," then make a better version with fixes, and name it, "MH-MountainEscape2.unr."
WTF? Where is version one!? BAM! The confusion begins.
And also, Herm, can you copy this post, paste it under MonsterHunt Mapping, Sticky it, and Lock it? Thanks.

None of that is necessary if mappers would import the textures to the my level package. There is no need to have allot of files with the map. It is way more convenient for server admins to upload only one file.
Having all these extra files is just laziness imho.
I will touch on this subject agian in a tutorial i am writing on mapping so don't fret mr mr.

Hmmm?
Hmmm? So Kort, you are telling me that each map I have that has multiple files is only because the mapper did it wrong? Say I have MH-Andromeda and it comes with:
2 UTX file
2 UMX file
and 1 AUX file
Now, tell me this: Could you edit the map to have it include the additional files?
If you could do that then tell me this: Say you did this for me on 2 different maps. Each map used the Mountain.umx but one was spelled like MOUNTAIN and the other was spelled mountain. If you got them to be included in the single file version of their perspective map I asked you to make for me and I already had the MOUNTAIN.umx file in my system folder, would it cause a file mismatch error when I tried to play the second map who's version of this file was spelled mountain? I actually already know this answer but I want to see what you think and why. Later!

They did not do it wrong per say. It is just more considerate for server admins if you include everything in the map. Some people just make a separate .UTX file or sound file cause they are worried about the file size i guess. What does it matter if clients have to still DL it though. imho:?
Yes it is possible to open those maps in ED and import the textures and sounds into the map. you just have to replace all the textures with the imported ones.
I dont know if the music can be imported though , i will have to check it out.
The answer to you question: If it is built inside the map file then there will be no file mismatch. So say we have two maps using mountian.umx , we would only have to fix one of the maps to have both on the server.

This is just a reminder to myself to install this map on the server. If you are aware of naps that have been fixed to newer better versions of themselves and I'm still running the old one, please let me know so I can start to get MHM updated again. Thanks!
