Slow downloading files
I was on CMM server today and finished a game with Hermskii Jr. Jr picked a map and I voted for it. But, the map file was S....L....O....W to download.
It was DM-Finite.
It downloaded at .10% every second. I tried to refresh and to reconnect, but it did not help.
So I missed out on the game with Jr

Re: Slow downloading files
That map is about 10.3 MB, I know cuz I downloaded the .zip from ut99.org just before visiting family for XMAS. Dunno if that had to do with the download speed or it was more an issue with the server you were on.

Re: Slow downloading files
A few things can cause this to happen....
1. When dealing with a lot of maps for a server, its easy to miss one. Its possible the map wasn't compressed and copied to the redirect.
2. The redirect could be having issues and not responding to the download request. This will cause the UT server to begin sending the map to you itself which is very slow.
3. Some maps just don't compress well and will be slow on transfer no matter what the admin does. The map might just need to be removed.

I think it was #2. After a long time, the first file was downloaded but the second file was doing the same...downloading at .1% every second. I just left...Sir Mandrake wrote:A few things can cause this to happen....

Re: Slow downloading files
Yeah, a defunct redirect will desert a server real quick lol - If you go back in a day or so, youll find that its probably corrected itself. I know my redirect has gone thru this spell once or twice.

Re: Slow downloading files
Amen to that Sir Mandrake. In the beginning I dealt with these issues way too often. Redirects can be a major pain in the butt.

Re: Slow downloading files
I tried the Finite map again, and had the same results. I guess I will need to avoid that map, or when I really do not want to play, take time to try to download it.

Re: Slow downloading files
Yes, something seems to be wrong with the Redirect.
I have noticed this for the past week or so, but I thought it would go away as it usually does.
When I add new maps, the redirect hasn't been working, but only on any New maps added.
This is so different than a regular redirect! It is not what you are thinking it is.
Remember, this is an Automated Redirect from GameServers.com, and you do Not compress any files.
The redirect compresses and sends any files that are not in the stock install, automatically.
I'll probably have to have lucifur put in a "ticket" for fixing.
I could do it but I would rather have him do it.
