I play UT 2004 with the gamma set brighter than my desktop. So if during a map change the brightness of the picture you see while the map is loading suddenly goes darker, then I know I am about to crash back to the desktop. Then I get the "General Protection Fault" mini window, with a lot of jargon in it. I have used "copy text" four times to record what went wrong, and saved to notepad. Sometimes just for fun I submit the error, although I doubt if it goes anywhere any more, and that anyone looks at it.
Do we have someone here who can look at these four examples (all probably identical) and tell me what is going on, and if it can be fixed? And how to fix it?
Thanks!

Re: Map change game crashes
I'm only partially familiar with ut2004, not that I'd likely to be able to provide a better answer if this were a ut99 issue necessarily, but there does seem to be a common oddity to each of these crashes.
Why does the computer date indicate that it is November 23rd 2005?
Is this an old text document or is your computer's clock about 5 years off?

That is the date of the game's installation I think.

Can you check? Seems an odd thing for it to mention with recent crashes.a nameless entity wrote:That is the date of the game's installation I think.

Re: Map change game crashes
It says UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005_11_23_16.22]UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-11-23_16.22]
So that's either the date/version number of the game itself, or the date it was installed. And it most likely was installed in 2005, since I rarely pay full price for a game, and usually wait however long it takes for it to drop below $30.
Hmmm, the game may be more messed up than I thought? I went into Add/Remove Programs and clicked on Change/Remove to see if any extra info could be accessed about the install. Then I was going to cancel the process. But I got an error message instead, and could not proceed.
I went into the game folder and found that the files were created on: November 9, 2005, 11:54:01 PM for the most part. One folder said it was created at 12:04 AM Nov 10th, so I guess that date mentioned in notepad is fairly accurate.
p.s. I also saw you ask Nelsona if he could help me in another thread. Thanks for thinking of me.

Re: Map change game crashes
I had a similar problem recently as I've got ut99 in two different directories, my original & the one I'm setting up for hosting games. Was trying to remove something from the potential hostee but it wouldn't let me as it didn't recognize it exactly.a nameless entity wrote:Hmmm, the game may be more messed up than I thought?
