Login woes -the loop of (never ending password entry) poop
At Herm's suggestion I am posting about this problem I have had with the forum for at least 2 or 3 years. If memory serves, it can be an on again/off again kind of problem.
What happens is: If I try to post from my local library (which uses the Firefox browser) or my brother's family PC (he uses Internet Explorer) I can get caught in a never ending loop of login requests.
Let's say I'm at the library, checking to see if I got an answer to a thread I started in this forum from home. I see an answer to my question, so I go to post a reply. I type my message, and then hit the submit button. The first thing that happens is that I see the login screen so that I may go ahead and post. So I log in. Then the browser asks me if I want it to remember my password. Of course I do not want that on a public PC, so being in Firefox, I would pick "not now". So now that I am logged in, instead of being returned to my reply screen, I get a new one that is blank. (And this happens with either browser, so it's not a browser issue.) If I use the back button and copy my text into the new screen OR if I try to submit from the old window now that I am logged in, instead of getting my message posted all that happens is that I am returned to the login screen AGAIN.
I can repeat this process several times, but it does not matter what I try, or how I try it, the ONLY way to get this forum to accept my message is to let the browser "remember" my password. That is OK at my brother's place, but definitely NOT at the library! It seems as if without doing that, this forum immediately forgets that I am logged in the moment I leave the login screen and return to the text input screen.
The problem I describe is unique to this forum. And come to think of it, whenever Firefox has done a major update to itself, or I accidentally wipe ALL of the cookies from my browsers, I can get this problem from home too, until I let the browser remember my password.
The important question Herm and I wish to have answered is: Has this been happening to anyone else?

clean up all cookies, reset firefox to factory settings. If that does not help, sweep your complete %temp% folder and reinstall firefox. This is not a browser problem but a certain glitch in the php - post event. He thinks that the password is correct but the database refuses. I've seen this problem before.

Ok thanks for that info.Terraniux wrote:This is not a browser problem but a certain glitch in the php - post event. He thinks that the password is correct but the database refuses. I've seen this problem before.
I'm glad to know it's not at my end, for there is certainly nothing I could do with the library computers; and I sure as heck won't be messing with my brother's family PC.

Real quick Nameless....does your password have special characters in it like @,#,<, $, ?
If so, please try one without them and see what that does. Terraniux isn't saying per say that it is the forum's fault either. He is saying it is known issue with PHP which is the code that my forum runs on. This is not a setting I can change I don't think.
If I am wrong here, somebody needs to tell me what the setting is and where it is. You know good and well that I'll change it for Nameless if needed.

Thanks Herm.
If it's out of everyone's hands, then so be it.

As a workaround, try logging in on the main page as the first thing you do before you start browsing the posts.a nameless entity wrote:Thanks Herm.
