UT-FILES

Post by Hermskii » Sat Feb 04, 2012 1:44 am

Skillz is the creator, owner and maintainer of the greatest collection of UT content on the PLANET! Speaking of Planet...everyone in UT has heard of Planet Monster Hunt. Yes! That website is all Skillz! He is by far one of the most recognized and respected UT contributors EVER! Skillz has painstakingly collected everything UT for most of his UT career. He ran what was one of the first and most popular MH servers ever. While he still plays UT now and then he remains focused on his mission to continue running the go-to place for all things UT.

The House of Hermskii {HOH} and I couldn't be more proud to induct a person such as Skillz and his famous contributions to UT into our list/family of recommended UT Sites and Servers!

I told him a few years ago that I'd do all I could to promote his efforts and I finally am able to get busy doing it! Please link to everything he does on everything you do that is UT related! I try to do it when people are looking for stuff on this or any other forum I frequent. Skillz and his work are simply A+ to me and a staple for all UT communities.

Here is a link to his website:

It's a little odd you're using that link. The Planet MonsterHunt part of his site can't really be accessed unless you login.

Your link goes to the same place this one goes · http://forums.ut-files.com/

I like UT-Files. It's one of a handful of sites I get most of my UT stuff from. The only directly comparable one to his site is this French version I hit every so often.

Yeah. You are right about my original link. I will change it now. Actually, I'll post the link directly to the root of his website and not to his forum as I originally posted. I'm unsure if that other link you posted from France is his. I think it is a link to many of his files but I don't think that website belongs to Skillz. The website I posted does belong to Skillz for sure.

So it seems this place has been down for a very long time and I haven't heard from Skillz at all about any of it. I did read the stories of stuff on other forums but what matters is it doesn't look like he'll be returning anytime soon. Just out of respect to him I'll keep this section here for about 1 more month and then it will be absorbed into another forum here. to be archived. Too bad too. this was an awesome site run by a pretty awesome guy.

Before the old ut-files is returned by Skillz.I have save all UnrealTounamant ut-files Since I added almost 1500 files.

* New utfiles http://80.15.57.7/ or http://medor.no-ip.org/

[IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
RedirectToURL=http://utredirect.org.uk/uz/
ProxyServerHost=

Skillz understandably went to ground after his forum and site went bye bye. There was like a massive witch hunt for him, because his site went down everyone blamed him for their files being lost. I argued, on a few forums, that it wasn't his fault those nuts uploaded files to him and then deleted them from their own hard drives... which took some of the wind out of their sails.

The most recent anyone's hard from skillz, that I know of, is this past week.

Here:
http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?p=54803#p54803

He's also in that thread a bit earlier too.

He's still around, but because everybody was screaming for his head before he's being careful where he pokes it out.

Yeah, I have already "Defuncted" his UT-Files section over at HUTP. :?
It'll stay for some time before moving to an out-of-the-way area, but I had to let people know it is down and out.

Yes, EG, if they lose their files they put out on the web, it is their own fault.

Woow, so people blamed Skillz because is out ? Interesting, now is confirmed what admins are hosting UT servers. That public redirect had always small flaws buging players with incomplete files partially uploaded, which weren't replaced very fast. For such an important reason a dude told me to try my own redirect (at least can be updated and fixed in a mater of seconds). The problem of files ? How dumbass can be to store files outside of your house ? Servers can be down, Internet might suffer caused by heavy storms, etc. Again, this is totaly ignorance. But this is normal for such new admins generation to mock only not to do quality ignoring default rules. When I wanna play some UT with different people I simply hit Start buton and I play in my own server (s).

Skillz said this:
http://www.unrealadmin.org/forums/showp ... stcount=36

Which was in this thread (more good to read in there):
http://www.unrealadmin.org/forums/showt ... 663&page=2

I was dealing with the crossfire, cuz I like to back the good guys, as I see them, on a different forum.

Here:
http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthre ... 626&page=2

In hindsight, I recall that like a lot of people that host massive files of others, Skillz had his site setup to accept donations to keep his stuff going.

I can't help but wonder how many of those people that complained ever bothered to donate money to keep his site up and running.

He had a good job to pay a big system. But as you lose your work all falls into the water.
The donation system as work a little for him, but not enough and it closed.

A system that runs on donations of money is always end up failing.

With or without money, Skillz helped enough UT cause - for this reason I can only say RESPECT. Any new admin doing a server could use even temporary that redirect until to develop his own job.

There indeed were hosted more good and bad things. Skillz was guilty for hosting files ? I'm not sure. Each admin has the right to test stuff and to remove bad things speaking with coders about problems.

I owed him a hdd I never did get to him. I said I'd help out forever ago and didn't so I feel bad but i did get lots of folks turned on to his site and had many of them contribute to his efforts. Maybe that counts for something. Had I gotten him the drive it would have only costed about $100 and that would not have been enough to help him keep the site up.
