Of course just internet traffic load can make your speed vary widely.

Today has been a  when it comes to downloading images to a picture hosting site so I tested the internet with the pingtest and speedtest. Here are the results..

I found out that speedtest.net keeps a record of your tests link to your IP address. I can download the history into an Excel Document.

Hellfire, you have a great setup for the download and upload speeds. What type of service do you have? I know I can't get what your getting but I am curious how you have such great speeds.

That is because the USA has one of the slowest internet service in the whole world.
TRUE! :?
It was on the news the other day and they compared the USA with q number of other countries - we were WAY below the average speeds of most other countries!

Japan has on average 10 times the speed of average USA internet speeds.
Most other countries average 5 to 10 times the USA's speed!

They are trying to fix this (Google is one of the pioneers of this) but we'll see.

I sent the gathered information and sent it to my provider.

Their reply "We do see your connection is having some signal issues which will cause high ping times, latency, and jitter. This signal issue seems to only be affecting your connection as we are unable to see any neighbors experiencing the same issue. This signal issue can be caused by a bad coax cable, a bad splitter, a bad outlet, or a bad modem. The best way to resolve this issue would be to call CableONE.Net's Solutions Center toll free at 1-877-692-2253. We are open 24 hours a day and will be happy to setup a service call so we can resolve this problem for you."

So I made an appointment and they came. Note: I have techs come to my house and replace splitters and such and it still did not fix anything. Anyway they came, checked the modem, splitters and the house wiring. The tech decided it was not on my end, that it would have to be on their line away from the house. (I have been telling this for some time but they always stated that it was on my end and my equipment causing the issues). The tech stated that he was going to forward this to another subject who deals with the lines on the power/telephone poles. So we will see what happens if anything.

As usual is always the customer's fault...
Their cheap copper lines, rusty connectors, overused and/or burnt DSLAMs, unexperienced technicians, etc. are never the cause of any issues at all. What a waste of time.

I have 7mb AT its BEST (= never), plus my upload speed tends to degrade over time, I mean if I leave the router on for 6 hours in a row, I start with 0.40 Mbit and it ends being 0.20 Mbit. If I do a shut-down and a reboot of the router most of the times it gets fixed. Now that's weird. :|
Also I don't have optic fibre cables but just lame, dated copper lines.

These values have been directly taken from my router control panel:

SNR Margin (db): 20.7 down 22.0 up
Line Attenuation (db): 23.0 down 13.3 up
Data Rate (kbps): 8128 down 478 up

Forget about the Data Rate, that's just the backbone cable signal, not the actual speed of your line. I'm also using an UTP Cat-5 Ethernet cable to connect the router to the laptop which is 1 meter long, so there should be little dispersion I suppose.

On page 5 (just 1 page back), I said on Nov. 1st, 2009:

Today I'm asking about "Free Remote Programs"

At work I use "Go To My PC" and I think it is a very good program but I don't like that I can't see the mouse at the PC I'm connected to when the user moves it around. We also use "Go To Assist" Which I think is just awesome. It does everything well. Both require registration and fees. I was hoping somebody knew of a free program that works as well or close to one of these. Thanks!

No matter now EA. I have it. I use it. I like it! It's FREE!
~Peace~
