I just saw a new processor that has cause me to think more about building a system. It is the Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646I74790K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819117369

I am content with my current system that I built years ago, but it is aging and if the motherboard goes out again, I will be stuck. So I still have the build in the back of my mind.

Yes I am not trying to build a gaming system, but I want to build a system that I will be happy with.

In addition to the faster processor I am thinking about using CORSAIR Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler to cool the faster processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835181060

We will see. I think about doing things but then I logically tear it apart later and either do it or eliminate the idea. We will see in about 6 months.

Well, I broke down and I got a newer computer. I did not go the route of building my computer this, mainly because the costs did not outweigh the need/desire. But I did get a decent computer, I think.

The specs are the following:
Dell XPS 8700
Intel I7-4770 CPU @ 3.40
16 GB ram
1 TB hard drive
Windows 7 Pro

Since I got a new computer I also got a new monitor.
An Acer 24" monitor

I broke down and got this, so now I am just BROKE. :?

You just have an awesome system is all. Here is my best system right now:

Dell Precision T3400

It is a 2007 system but I like it.

By the way you can save a few bucks on Dell computers, sometimes quite a few bucks, by going to their retail sales page where they sell off the open box and returned units that were sent back by the original buyer for whatever reason. The downside is of course, that you don't get to pick what is in that particular system.

Check back often, for the deals available change pretty much every day. And you might find something the next day or week that fits exactly what you would have chosen yourself anyhow.

Well I did that in a round about sort of way. I bought this Dell from eBay from a person/company who sells open box items from Dell.

I wanted an I7 processor at least a 4th generation processor, and I wanted Windows 7 (not 8 or 8.1), and I wanted 16 gb of memory. So this auction was pretty much what I wanted and it was listed as new, but marked as an open box item. It was about $800.

I was going to build my computer but I could not see myself wanting to spend the $1400 that I was looking at with the parts I thought that would be good. There was no need to spend that much money unless I really had a need for that type of a computer and I do not have that need, besides pride and wanting to have the fastest thing around so... I went the economical way.
