Vader had a cape...

Darth Vader had a cape just like a super hero. It just dawned on me that this may be part of the reason kids secretly like him so much. Discuss!

Doubtful, it's probably more a dark wizard thing. The Force is magic.

Lots of villains wear capes, always have.

To be honest, I think that Lando Calrisian looked perfect wearing a cape.
His style reflected the heraldic / courtly nature of it more.

Star Wars is basically Wizards and Warlocks in space, so there are a lot of capes !

Fair enough. Capes are cool! I can't wait for it to become a fashion statement for poor middle age guys.

Thinking of middle aged guys in capes doesn't suggest Star Wars movies to me, but rather any 1930's movie featuring rich swells dressed in a tuxedo complete with cummerbund, cape, and jewelled black walking stick.
And usually those guys were monied power wielders who had gone over to the dark side........ ;)
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

I think that Lucas may have been after a sort of Count Dracula vibe with Lord Vader.
