Windows 10 and UT GOTY
So......... I decided to try Windows 10 on one of my computers that doesn't get used very often, so I can see if it something I want on my main computers. I upgraded the Dell computer with Windows 10 and I tried some programs and they worked. I then tried UT GOTY and it worked, but I changed the screen settings once and now the options to change the screen settings is blank and I cannot change the screen settings
Is there a way to correct this without re-installing UT? Freakin change, I hate it. I mean I was dragging my feet on this change. Why fix something if it is not broken? But I wanted to try it out first. Thoughts??You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Well, I decided just to uninstall and re-install UT. I then copied over files from my computer onto the other computer and it is back up and running. So.. I guess that is one way of fixing it.

Well, I got UT running after uninstalling it and re-installing it. But the screen appears darker. I have the brightness all the way up. Any suggestions?

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
Wish I'd seen this thread sooner, that was completely unnecessary.
I have 2 copies of ut99 on my system, the normal version and the Unreal Anthology version. Neither were impacted when I upgraded to Windows 10... but my graphics settings were different. If you had selected a different option above where you choose the resolution, it would've been able to change.
Oh well...
Brighten your monitor's settings. It's gotta have a knob on it somewhere for that.

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
Hi David. Long time no see. I hate change too but I try to embrace it which reduces the pain somehow. I too wish I saw your post earlier. I am betting you could have restarted that installation of UT in safe mode and just chose another resolution or gone with the one it gave you by default. There is also a OpenGL renderer you can install pretty easy that works very good with UT. It may give you better results when changing resolutions. If you want it, email me and I'll send it to you with some simple install directions. I use it alone for all of my UT installs.

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
I recall that changing from D3D to OpenGl used to make my game darker. Try Hermskii's suggestion of the improved OpenGl renderer patch. I'm pretty sure that that is what improved things for my game.
I see that the latest version is now #36. I had good results in XP with versions 31-35. OpenGl with the upgrade is awesome in UT99.

There should also be a way to change brightness settings in the appropriate .ini file, if you want to go that route.

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
I sent him a OpenGL renderer. It was not the newest but it does have brightness controls in it if I recall. I am looking forward to hearing back from him.
Hey Nameless, if you can give me some time and some non-covert answers, I can build and give you a decent PC. Send me an email. Let's discuss it.

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
Well, I looked up the issue of UT99 being too dark and saw that it was not uncommon. I read a post (another site) that stated: "Your best bet is OpenGL, but you might use Direct3D9 just as good if you prefer." So I followed the instructions and it was lighter, making the darker maps more playable.
I then selected the OpenGL option.
What I like about the GL version is that the bottom of the screen where the weapons are shown is not dark. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
I just wanted to say thanks for your guys pointing me in the direction. I have always tried to use the video card/hardware (Direct3d) that I have to play the game, but with this update to Windows 10, it made several maps too dark to play without being frustrated (even with the brightness in the game turned all the way up and with the brightness of the monitor turned all the way up.)

Re: Windows 10 and UT GOTY
Yes, it's good to hear that you got things sorted out David.
The images seem to show that D3D9 has finally caught up to OpenGL (with the improved renderer file), or nearly. I would be very curious to see the differences between the two on certain textures and items, such as the textures of wood and stone, and the general appearance of open spaces with ponds, trees, rocks and grass. The improved OpenGL totally rocked on items such as those, and I'd like to see if D3D9 now rivals it.
If I'm going to see for myself, I guess I'm going to have to pm Hermskii about his kind offer.
The pm has been sent.
