I find it interesting that very few people are commenting on this topic.
Doesn't anyone care or have interest in the FUTURE of UT99 and/or this forum for that matter?
Sure it's debatable and nothing will probably come of it but as least an opinion or a "whatever"?

Yeah it's a sad day when no one wants to disagree with MEAT...

Actually everyone does, but the thing why I don't comment is that I'm not worrying that it is ''dying''.
I find it silly to say that all the time while it has still plenty of players/servers.
Just play it and don't worry about the game is ''dying''.

That is a Very good way to look at it HellFire! I LIKE it! ...
BUT, we need to go a step or 2 further... (read on)
==================================================

Some Thoughts about PRESERVING UT...

About SAYING UT is dead or dying? - well - answer me this...
If YOU were told about 2 games that are very cool, you can get them for free or very little money and they are both just totally awesome and you really think they both look very fun. - you go to the 2 sites, ONE for each game and this is what you find...

GAME 1's Site says: Our Game 1 is dying and may be dead already. :(
OR...
GAME 2's Site says:Our Game 2 is Still going good after all these years and we will be playing it for years to come - it is alive and well here. :P

Which game are YOU going to want to DownLoad or purchase and Participate in?
I'll bet it would be Game 2 !!! (just guessing here)
Do you SEE my point of view here about just "Saying" (or posting) it is dead or dying?
We Should NOT be! - I even get the "Willies" just posting it here in this post! :?
I contend that SAYING it makes quite a difference to the general public.

Granted, people who Already Play UT, already know all of this.
But, people just finding out about UT, do not!

Oh Yes, I am and have been very in touch with UT and Yes, I well noticed the decline over the years.
that is Not my point hewre! (not an issue - I agree)
But Potential NEW players (and yes I have seen them - and there are MANY), WILL be influenced as TO play or NOT to play, by what they read about the game on OUR forums.
Also, it is very evident that UT is now out in the "Thrift Store" places as that is where most new players have told me they purchased UT99 lately.
I get quite a few people that e-mail me about the game.
Of course I tell them YES - DownLoad it and Play it! :P
Not that it is dead or dying. :o
That is what I am saying here and I Definitely KNOW what I am talking about!
Let's Give UT (aka UT99) a Positive spin from NOW ON, rather than a Negative spin!!! :P
I Only MAKES SENSE!

Again - We have GOT to start RE-Marketing UT or it will (ahem) d*i*e even sooner than it may!
And - Give it some GOOD Press - as they say!

When a dog is sick do you say "It is dying so let it be"???
NO - Some of us say "Pick that poor dog up and let's bring it to the Vet and Cure it! -
It has a lot of years left in it so it is definitely worth the effort! - It is Great dog indeed"!
hehe...I don't think talking about UT DYING is actually going to kill it.
And obviously you're aware of UT's decline because you started this
thread about the future of UT...looking for answers I assume?
But we already know the answer, it's UT3, UT2004 and UT2007.

And the general public just don't wander into a UT forum...lol
The only people here are those that already play UT...and I think they
already know the sitution. Just look at all the empty server and forums
out there...less and less threads are being posted.

Oh and when a dog is sick you give it comfort and medicine and hope it gets
better. But if your dog is OLD and sick you let nature take it's course.

But I'm not giving up on UT99...I still post and I run a server. I add maps
and just added a new mod. I'm seeing new faces but we also lost
more of the old faces.
And to compare player count and server and forum activity to what it use to
be...well a lot of people would say it's dying.

I've said this before, the only real answer is for EPIC to step in and do a
revision or a new limited edition of UT99. But I doubt that's going to happen.

hmm...I guess I'll just have to put my faith in to the $.99 store... :|

Create a UT 3 redeemer server . . .. hhmmm . . . think Klownz might give it a try . . . .
Evil is obvious only in retrospect.

Try it but you'll hate it I'm guessing. Recall how hard it was to do Redeemer Mod in 2003 and 2004. Go for it. Let us know.

me and a UT3 friend already did a redeemer arena in UT3, however i should warn you it causes extremely terrible lag. sometimes even crashes the game in certain maps because of the size and effect power of the deemer in UT3.

I know there was more to this "quote" but this is ALL I want to see or hear!

===================================

Yes KillerKlownz!!! - Give Redeemer Arena a try in UT3. :P
This MAY prove that UT99 is the best venue for Redeemer and also help keep UT99 alive - in that respect.
Yes, let us know how it works.

Venue? Did I spell that right? Yes, I'd say that UT is the best venue for our beloved Redeemer Mod. I have not tried it out on UT3 but I don't want to install that crap just to see either. Now that I have a fair PC, I should reinstall UT2004 and take another look but I won't. UT is just fine for me.
