No problem. The cryptolocker stuff really makes me nervous so I was glad to find some sort of protection.

I got one of those emails from my ISP saying some PC on my network is trying to hack people. I got home from work and started scanning all of the desktops and laptops and they were all coming up clean. Finally, near the end of the night I read the warning from my ISP again and this time notice the ip address. It was my server box's IP address.

I logged in and everything looked normal. I updated virus software and ran a check with multiple malware scanners and my server was packed full of viruses and malwares. DAMN!

I have fixed it. I should not be surprised though. It is still running XP. That makes this my fault. I'll be getting the server set up on Win 7 soon!

I'll be changing my ISP from UVERSE back to Comcast and in doing so I will no longer have my static IP address for the servers. I will start using some form of Dynamic DNS to make it so that you folks will still be able to connect with your current settings. This may take a little time for me to get it worked out so the servers may go down for a week or so. Just giving all of you as heads up. This change will save me about $150 per month and triple my current internet speeds.

Even if you have patched XP to continue getting updates (was it patched ?), it needs a lot more help to be secure.
If it is not behind a robust system provided by the network, it must have protection on it.
By their nature a game server is exposed to the world for direct connection, so no fancy network endpoint solution will help, other than to notify you of intrusion.

XP servers that have not been patched, or contain extra security are a threat to the rest of the internet, and must be taken round the back of the shed and shot, like the plague carriers they are.

If you are running a Windows PC that will be exposed to the net you should lock-down the system with;
Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET)
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2458544

For Windows XP, use the previous version (All remaining XP users should use it)
http://krebsonsecurity.com/2013/06/wind ... -emet-4-0/

Whatever AV system you have on it, must be able to notify you or give you a remote access portal (I think Avira has the only free option with remote monitoring).

If you use TeamViewer to connect to the server, then it also has an optional AV (trial) and monitor, but I am not sure how good the AV is, but you do get to see when the system is behaving abnormally.

Whatever software protection you have, if the wrong ports are open to the wrong place then all bets are off.
Test your PC (any OS) with this page "Shields UP!"
https://www.grc.com/shieldsup

If you find Windows own firewall system a bit rubbish, then try adding an enhancement to it for more flexible control "Windows Firewall Control"

There is a free malware bytes anti exploit program out that is beta and free.

It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware Beta. Here it is:

On a whole other note; all of the {HOH} servers are offline and I'm having trouble getting them past my new cable modem. Still working on it. The IP Addresses changed too. This sucks man!

No luck so far. I can't get out past my own cable modem / router. I have already tried technical support from Comcast and they could not help. They suggested I buy my own modem and try like that. No I say. I will keep trying.
