hehe...funny, all I wanted was to see if we could add a few new maps and it turns into an issue. (But it can't compare to real issues we all have to deal with in life Herm). I play this game for the enjoyment and the challenge of using the redeemer. Just wish more people felt the same way I do about the game. I know I know....there are different styles and uses of the redeemer blah blah blah. Save it because I've heard it....lol

Players

Post by Hermskii » Sat Nov 05, 2005 10:37 pm

I feel like I could go on forever about great players over the years. There have been so many that have come and gone. There are about 10 in all that really stood out during different times. It would seem like that they could not be stopped and then finally a month later a new champ would take over for a month or two. Here are 3 of the very best ever in my opinion in no special order:

1. Kind@Bud

2. Mahatma

3. Death Inc.

In the beginning I was even a top contender for a pretty good amount of time but now I don't really play enough to be great but I can still deal out the death pretty good. This is making me itch to play a little. Watch the final score when I play. I usually get second or third place everysingle game. I hate that too. Later!

Enough about great players.....how about some great maps? I played most of the 170ish maps you mentioned and only found about 20 worth playing. Again, a lot of them were a little small, boring(no challenge) and somewhat repetitive. Also, the ratio of people playing versus the size of the map can be an issue. To many people in a small map and it turns into a 2 min free for all. Not sure who finds that fun? And for me the map vote is a little high.....not sure how everyone else feels?

Considering

Post by Hermskii » Tue Nov 08, 2005 7:26 pm

The new map vote will let me divi up the maps. I've been think about having the divided by size. The map vote has 4 columns to work with so it could go:

Huge Maps

Big Maps

Medium Maps

Small Maps

Just in the concept phase as I think it might take more work than I'm willing to put into at this point. I haven't researched this option enough yet. Then, I could even the 4 columns out to about 50 each meaning I'd have to add about 30 more. Hmmmm?

Alot of the maps we play now on Redeemer are some of the originals form day one.....old and played way to much on other sites. I am clueless when it comes to adding maps/building maps...etc. But I think it would be great if we had newer maps.....just a thought.

Hey it wasn't all that long ago that I submitted a few maps that I had held back as not being quite good enough for redeemer arena. I decided that these ones should at least be considered for play, as opinions as to what makes a good map vary so widely. To my complete surprise DM-Venus has turned out to be very popular. I could have submitted that one in early 2002. Now I wish that I had.

Be assured that many many maps have been reviewed by Herm and I over the years. We have both been to a number of map sites and looked at all of the maps rated 7 and higher by the reviewers. Others have done so too.

These days for simplicity Herm only runs single file maps. And you are playing in the best of the best of the single file maps. :D
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

Don't get me wrong....there are at least 10 maps that are decent and another 10 that are really good. I think Venus is a good map, but it's funny, the last time I played it 4 people said it was boring and took to long to play so they left. They much rather play 2 min maps. But to me I just don't see the challenge in a 2 min map. I like big strategic maps. But to each his own......

Well if you're not going to bring any new maps then in how about giving us the old ones back? Playing all these small/repetitive looking maps and mapvote set at 10....it's not all that fun.

Um?

Post by Hermskii » Wed Nov 09, 2005 7:05 pm

Did you not notice that I increased the map repeat limit to 60+? You never play the same map within 60 maps of itself now. What old maps? I've been on this cycle over a year and added maps to it too! Those way old multifile maps were too much a pain so I ditched them. Find em, send em, I'll test them, if I like I upload. If not I don't. Easy!

hehe....excuse me. 60+ means we never get to play any of the good maps but once....that is what I meant by bring the count down so we can play the old maps we like more then once.

Impossible

Post by Hermskii » Wed Nov 09, 2005 9:30 pm

So, you want me increase the replay limit from what it was when it was too small but you want me to reduce it from what it is now so you can have a chance to play the maps again sooner that you were sick of before as well as the maps you prefer. Actually, mathmatically, out of 60 you don't like the 1st 10 as they are played too much. You said you like about 10 maps so I'll assume they are the next 10 after the 1st 10 or we'll just say every other one of the next 20. So with 60 - the first 10 + 20 of which you may like about half of them that makes about 30 maps to cycle which means that if I set it to that, you'd get to play 1 map you like out of every 3. Right? If I reduce that down to we'll say a total of 20 maps then you would only like a possible 1/2 of those maps being you know you don't like the same ol original 10 that always get picked in MapVote 1st and would only get to play the maps you like on average every other map or we'll just say you'll get to play a map you like half of the time BUT we know that the 1st 10 will be played first as they always have been by using the vote so you would then get to play your favorite 10 maps after the other 10 you don't like. I can't tell which 10 you like so chances are that using the other formula from above when we were running thiry maps and you only liked 1/2 of the last twenty when we apply that same concept, you may only like 1/2 of the last ten maps in the 20 map rotation meaning you may only enjoy 5 maps out of 20 which puts the odds at a worse count in that then you would on average only like 1 in 4 maps. It's so clear except the part about how many maps you think I should set in the map replay limit in MapVote. What is that number again my master? I have to post this in Redeemer Arena Forum!

Catch your breath.
The point is I'm not the only one that has favorite maps and you've said it and it's true, some maps are played more and some maps are more popular then others. Give the guy that misses out on his favorite maps a chance to play them...if he missed them the first time around. Fun for all...not just me.
