Misquoted?
Hmm...maybe I should comment on what you said Herm...you seem to be adding to my comments a little...
Herm wrote; "You guys need to really give it to MEAT pretty hard soon. He has told me that he has already beaten many of you Redeemer Arenan Regulars and swears ya'll can only win on medium sized maps using "Spray and Pray" against him. He says he beats ya'll on the larger "Hide and Seek" maps.
I assured him ya'll could tear him a new one under any condition but maybe he has gotten better than you regs! LOL. Let's see!
And I wrote;
"Some people might say Mahatma is good and maybe he is. But I did beat him and I have beating Death Inc. on non spray and pray maps....lol Their other big thing they do is spawn kill. You see that with guys who have been around for awhile or who really know a map. Don't get me wrong. I've done it, it's not cool and not much of a challenge but it happens. But if you catch Mahatma and Death Inc. on larger maps and they don't sit and spawn kill, you may have a chance. Although now a days I mostly see the spray and pray techique from everybody and it's discouraging to even compete. I'm losing interest in the redeemer."
I wasn't being mean in what I wrote. Just to clarify I was just stating that I have beating some of the best....and I didn't say I beat them all the time like you made it sound. Actually I lose most spray and pray games. But on some larger maps the spray and pray technique does not always win and you may have a chance of beating those that spray and spawn kill. And Herm there is no need to get any other players mad or hate me. I only have respect for the best....and Mahatma and Death Inc. are 2 of the best in how they play. I even have a little respect to those that suck and beat me too.....lol
But it would be nice to go 1 on 1, no bots, to see who is the best.

Hey MEAT, I wrote it like that because this is common place with competitive players on these servers. Every once in a while we get some new folks (you) who are very anxious to test themselves against other players. I was exactly like you when I first started playing this mod. I too had preferences like yours in that I always wanted big maps. Anyways, to make this short I too was once upon a time one of the best Redeemer Arena players but after a few months you'll find noobs that come in and own you or maybe they are just renamed old regulars having fun.
I said what I said to get the others fired up. Not at you so much but including you specifically because I too get competitive every once in a while and decide to try to become one of the best again. I must say that you must understand that many of the best players like the ones I mentioned and many others really aren't even trying half of the time. Sometimes it's good to see a oldie come in and own everyone like the good old days. Sometimes it sux. Either way, it is great to get everbody fired up and have them show up and play.
Here is something cool about this mod that isn't trrue of too many others. Because it's still DeathMatch based, it is you against everyone. Even if everyone tries to gang up on you, you will still most of the time because it's DeathMatch and there is no can't be any teaming up with a mod like this one. If you are the best, you can and will win most of the time on most maps. In fact the only way you might lose is if you get caught in a loop of poop for too long.
If it came out like I was trying to get everyone to gang up on you, I apologize. I APOLOGIZE. I said what I said to get people fired up. That is all and to remind them a little of others like you and me that came in wanting to rule the game. I hope no harm was actually done and I look forward to fragging your butt next time I catch you on one of your preferred maps being it will usually be one of my favs too. For me, it is the size of the map and the number of bots playing too. Great regulars don't seem to like the big maps and never seem to play 1 on 1 . Talk to you later!

Spawn killing is normal in Redeemer Arena. It is an accepted fact that the best way to win is to spawn kill. This is how the top guns control a map, and win time after time. This is one area where Redeemer Arena differs from oridinary Death Match. Spawn killing is not a bad thing, but rather a technique for winning. The trick, and a difficult one it is too, is to live long enough and be good enough to succeed in fragging the player who is in control. Then you seize control and hopefully keep them in the loop of poop long enough to gather the 30 frags to win.

I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess

Funny you called me new folk....I've played here for more then a year....nots always as "MEAT"....no one has a clue to my original name/skin. I've seen alot of good players and alot of lucky players. And you're right about (spray and pray) players not liking big maps and going 1 on 1.....doesn't make them great though.

Blame
OK, maybe not exactly new but still it is your fault for not telling your original name or at least telling us how long you have been here. I don't play that much any more so Names get passed me easily now. Later!

Sup yall,
I like both forms of play. Sometimes I have only a few minutes and a tight map "Spray and Pray" is just the ticket. Big map, one on one stuff is fun too, given the time. I like the deemers because they are usually fast. I have a life, kid (another on the way), and a full time job. Seems like most of the people here are in the same boat.
Fast is good as is slow and methodical. Just like sex
My 2 cents.
</soapbox> lol.

Hi all,
I just want to say that may be (i do say MAY BE) Meat (and some others I know) wants too much be the winner of a map so they are not interrested by maps they can't win.
Of course everybody starts to play hoping he will win but I (and some others, specifically some old regs)... love to play all maps because I take a great pleasure EVEN if I don't win !... That's what's creazy in that game !
Of course, when I started in Deemer games I didn't like the maps in which I was not able to collect some frags. I hated Fractal and now I love it because it's a pleasure to try to get someone that took a good spot !! And some other creazy maps like Anda Dar I only won once or twice !!!!
Many maps I lost were real fun, especially when one or more good players are in to nuke me !... The only thing Idon't like because it's frustrating is being caught in a loop like Herm said. You can't defend anything. So, I wait the end of it and I play next map with the same pleasure.
Another last thing, I hated small maps until I found some ways to win them : since I like all maps if there are players in it !!
Redeemer is fun, fun and fun. That's it...

Glad you said MAYBE....lol
Like I said from day one...and I'll quote, "I play for the fun and the challenge of using the redeemer". And I see no fun or no challenge in a 2 min map where all you do is spray and pray. (But I'll play them because I have no choice) Trust me we ALL want to WIN. As soon as the game starts our subconsciously motivated behavior to win is set into motion. Most people can't stop this behavior because it has been ingrained into our thoughts from day one from parents and society. That is the way of life with all species. Survival of the fittest.....even in a silly computer game like Unreal. As soon as the game starts our instincts is to win. It's meaningless because nothing is on the line, but we still all want to win.
Again, I play for the fun and the challenge of using the redeemer....win or lose....small map or large map. But I still think we need to set boundaries and limitations in each redeemer game (map size, number of people playing, spawn kills...etc)...much like we do in organized sports and corporate america. Please send comments and death threats to MEATisAclown@crazy.com

Maybe (again maybe !) people are tired of all that endless story ?...MEAT wrote:It's funny......when I'm right about something no one seems to want to comment on what I say. But if I say one thing out of line the whole world wants my azz.....lol
All I can say : enjoy that game in the way things go !!! It's a great mod !

Thanks!
Thansk for trying. Don't worry though. This forum, just like CG will survive even the slow times.
I'm like Meat. I like the maps big. Really big! Ilike to think about what I'm doing. Run test, search for folks, find new spots. Stuff like that. The little maps aren't as fun to me BUT like Lepoloo, Ihave learned how to win on the little maps and the sweetest part of one of those wins is that no matter how you do it. You really earned it! When you win, you lean back like it was easy and watch as everyone in amazement tells you GG. It is really great I must say.
In short, find something you like about every map and try to improve on it during the game. Those small round maps like Fractal used to kill me to play. Ihated them badly but now Ijust cringe when Isee it voted for and then I put my battle helmet on and go into war for the next 45 seconds. Ido my best through all 4 little maps like that and then finally, everyone will vote on a big one. Only 4-5 minutes to play all the little ones and back to the big sweet mamas!

BIG SWEET MAMAS !!!
Great minds think alike Herm...just wish I had one....lol
I would hate to misquote, but someone said it here once said...."A Win is a Win". Oh sure, you may have won the game but are you really winning (and can you lean back) when your Death count is greater than your Frag count?
Stir the pot....lol

Pfft.
Who cares what the frag count or death count is. As long as you have fun.
Which is why I HATE big maps? I do not have any fun on them. To me, they are long, drawn out, and really boring... but that is just me.
I love the INTENSE chess match that goes along with the smaller maps. You must make split second decisions. Wrong decisions mean that you loose. Great amounts of strategy are needed if you are to be successful. On a big map, all you need is that little red cursor to light up telling you that there is a player there...
If I do not like a map, I say bbl and quit. I may stay on for a few and try to get a few telefrags in. Whatever.
The point I am trying to make is CAN WE PLEASE JUST STOP THIS POINTLESS DEBATE?
Fact:
Maps of all sizes are a part of this game.
If you do not like them, then do not vote for them. If a small map wins, then play or leave. No drama is necessary.
If it bothers you that much, then why not put up your own server? Then you control the maps that are on it.
I am not trying to be mean, rude or disrespectful here. I am just saying that this horse died a long time ago. Do we still have to beat it?

I think you meant checkers (split second decisions)...not chess (long strategic worked out plan of action)? And that's where we differ. But I agree a win is a win and a game is a game. But I was posing the question toward people with depth. (people who look at the overall picture) Much like real life....You never win a war because there are always casualties.
Basicly I'm just trying to add more or have us think more about the game and the overall outcome rather then just a Win or Lose or who gets to 30 frags first. I mean no harm and there is really no need to get upset....I just wish we would think more about outcomes rather than be quick to click on the next game.
