The best part is that Scify already installed UT and is doing her part to rid this world and others of those pesky MONSTERS!

Ya the price is steep, but I aways would have liked to get a gaming pc from them. But I am too cheap and broke, so I will build my own system like I did in the past or I will buy a used computer and upgrade parts in it. But hey, if you could afford it, all the power to you. I do hope you enjoy the system. :D

I have a question for Herm, and others that may know. I have a Dell GX270 Slim Form Factor (the low profile/lays on the table/desk) for my kids computer. I know that the GX270 series and models like them have a bad rap for overheating. The "CPU" fan on top of the heatsink directs the heat towards the back.....so some people call it a vent fan as well.

I have replaced this fan before on a previous computer like this. Is there an after market heatsink and/or fan that will do a better job.

I just replaced the stock fan (1.35 amp) with a new one (2.1 amp). I am trying to see what options there are out there.

The computer has been a good computer (except for the heat issue).

Any ideas?

Dave my man, check these out.

also http://www.1stpccorp.com/fan_delta_92mm.htm

Dell CPU fans typically have a sensor in them for speed. So if the fan isn't working correctly, you might get that error.

Reboot and press F12 before Windows starts to load. Go to Utilities partition and run the fan tests. If it passes the tests, power off and unplug the PC. Press/hold the power button for ~15 sec. Open the case and remove the motherboard battery. Press/hold power button again for ~30 sec. Reinstall the battery (right-side-up!) and boot it up.

Removng the battery resets BIOS to factory default settings and should clear the stored error message, but you probably want to note down all the BIOS settings before resetting it so you can restore any options that weren't default settings.

If the fan fails the test, you should replace it. If you go with a non-Dell fan replacement, you'll get a fan failure error at every boot because it won't have that sensor. So you probably want a Dell fan.

as far as a good aftermarket Fan, not sure but i'll keep looking.

I don't have an opinion about the fans and replacing them. The only thing I hate about our small form factor GS270's and 280's is that the fans kick up speed if you challenge the PC at all. If you work the PC hard enough, it will sound like a vacuum cleaner after a while. I prefer the GX260 models that don't throttle the cooling fan up and down.

I would go with a dell fan from ebay. See if you can find a lot of 3 or so..

So, what I did, I bought a used laptop on eBay and then bought some good speakers and transferred all my music onto the laptop. The laptop will be used as a juke box, nothing else, nothing less.

I know, that is what MP3 players are for, but I am able to modify the laptop, such as replacing the hard drive for a larger one without great cost to. This is what I have to play/listen to music......

Here are the wonderful speaker system (the speakers cost more than the laptop) Logitech Z-2300 (THX certified)

Anyways, I should not brag/boast, because Karma likes to put me in my place. So, I am not bragging, just sharing. Need to find enjoyment in life somewhere, such as listening to some good music.
I just wanted to add my opinion about the jukebox since I have had it for some time. I swapped out hard drive with another laptop that I later sold on eBay. The current hard drive on the jukebox is 160 gb with 40 gb used for music so far.

I have a 10” memory foam on a platform bed that the subwoofer is under. :D You can feel the vibration of the subwoofer through the (thick- home made) platform bed and 10 inches of memory foam. If you have the right song, it feels that you are seated in subwoofer.

I am pleased with the time and the money I spent for the speakers and laptop and setting this “jukebox” up. It is good.

David - Try Playing CMM with a good sound system and a Sub-Woofer on!
Try the various deemers - especially in some heated battles with a lot of blasts.
It was shaking my floor when I use my subs! :o
Really adds to the experience.
