I was on Killerbee's Nali Waepons 2 Monster Hunt server last night when something odd happened. I got booted out of the game. Tried reconnecting 3 times but I kept getting the same error message. Ultimately I had to exit ut99 entirely, go back in again, and then everything worked fine. Still, the error message doesn't make any sense to me.

What does that mean?
Any clue what might've caused it?

Ive seen this happen when teh server is very busy or in your case probably the client wasnt working. Restarting will resolve in most cases. The Nexgen client wasnt getting Authenticated for some reason.

This Nexgen Belongs to DU and is linked with Du mutator, using it with other mods can cause troubles. But, anyway each admin is doing what he want. I tried such a Nexgen a few months ago and I replaced it with a default one.

Reason(s) ?
1) The Same Problem in contact server even with 1 player in certain maps;
2) Any version of Mr.Titan map caused Titan to be muted (no taunts).

Shamefully or not I tried only once UT2004, I didn't enjoyed it so much as UT99. So, I removed it and never tried other one especially since I looked for all kind of goodies and different tweaks only for UT99, this is the true I'm not hidding.
