It's probably not a virus but I had to come back to this thread to download some stuff cuz I'm having issues at home again.
I'm at Fry's now.
Wish me luck. More later, hopefully.

Re: it was fun while it lasted
Just to put this out there, though it doesn't sound entirely right in my head, the landlord whom I get wireless from's connection ranges from a service that exists between San Francisco & Los Angeles. He says it goes down every so often, this being the first time I've experienced it.
How it played out was middle of yesterday my connection died, and when I checked with him he said the same had happened to him. It never came back for me, though he got it back last night around 9pm. Now, the little icon on the toolbar says the connection is up and going strong but my browser keeps redirecting to a page directly on my IP address that states what my connectivity issue is.
It reads: "The ethernet cable has been disconnected. Reconnect it to regain access to the internet."
I'm confused by this as nothing on my side has changed at all, hardware wise. The only difference I did notice, as I couldn't get online I decided to run every anti-viral and diagnostic I had to kill time, was that my copy combofix.exe wasn't on my system anymore.
I didn't delete it, which made me think maybe something else did. So I grabbed it again from where it was posted in this thread to try when i'm home next.
Although i won't be home until Saturday late.
That's about where things stand now. Landlord is sure it will reconnect for me in time, though i don't see why I'd be connected so far after he was. I even disconnected from his wireless and re-logged into the thing fresh to see if that helped.
It didn't.
...le sigh...
