My mom passed 3 years ago...

Amazing how much life I have lived since my mother lost hers just about 3 years ago to the day. She passed around 3:00 AM on June 10th which happens to also be my son's birthday. I think of her often and the pain is still overwhelming sometimes but I am so much better now than I was then in regards to her dying.

My dad had died when I was a young boy and my mother stayed single though many tried to marry her. She raised me and 3 other siblings putting us all through private school and college. I still miss her dearly but like I said... I'm doing much better now. I had some family in this weekend for the first time since she passed. It was really great to see them. I'm reminded how much Mom wanted for each of us and I think I'm doing her proud with my awesome wife and beautiful kids. My siblings think so too. I just wanted to drop a note here about it.

It was three years ago. Wow! So much has happened in my life since then. Most of it has been great stuff. If you still have and love your parents tell them every chance you can.

I hear you Herm. It does take about 3 years to get through the worst of the grieving process. At least that was my experience.

In about 7 weeks it will have been 10 years since my mother passed on. In some ways it's hard to believe it has been that long. It doesn't feel like it.

But life has gone on. The trees she planted in the backyard so long ago have both reached maturity since she passed. The neighbourhood has begun to really change, and I think she would have hated all of the monster homes that invaded the community. Just this week another house on our street came down, and the foundation has been dug out completely this time. My mother always referred to each house by the name of the family that lived in it during the 1950's. I wonder whose place it was this time?

Today I went for a ride on the hog and ended up in Hamilton. So I went to the place where my grandparents are buried. Then I went farther into the city and visited the Cathedral for the diocese where my parents are interred in the columnbarium. (How do you spell that word? The spell checker has no idea either! )

Then I went on farther around the end of Lake Ontario to my brother's place in Grimsby and paid a visit. We had tea and my sister in law served some banana bread with walnuts. It wasn't my mother's recipe, but I had not had any for ....... 10 years.

If you still have and love your parents tell them every chance you can.

Sounds like you had a good, strong woman to be your Mom. I am sure you have carried some good traits from your mother to you and your family. Passing down traits and habits from our family members down to others is one good way to honor and remember our loved ones.

I know the pain my friend, very much still with me.
I lost my mom 1 year and 3 months on June 12th.
Also, my mom-in-law this past January.
I still get up and head for the phone to make calls to my mom, then remember...

Maybe I'm not so good. It was actually 4 years ago. Wow. Somedays it seems like yesterday and others it seems forever ago. I confirmed it to be in June of of 2009. Thanks all for the kind words. Especially yours David!
