OK. The sliding bots is because the server admin at that server used the textures from CD#2 which is a huge No-No in the UT server admin world. This is a texture issue indeed. They are called S3TC textures and they are much bigger than the default textures and much better looking. Bigger by default being 3 meg big compared to 30 meg big. Tell the admin to reinstall the textures from CD#1 and the sliding bot issue should go away.

As far as being stuck when you join the game, that is most likely due to either the admin doesn't have the latest firmware installed on the router he uses or a firewall issue that is still blocking ports to the game either being windows XP built-in firewall is not allowed to send the packets or get them or he has a software firewall either by itself or in addition to the XP firewall that is blocking packets which is the way the server and you communicate to play the game in real time.

Frame Rate

Post by Hermskii » Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:54 pm

You need to get my how to manual and try out the 1st several chapters. It will tell you how to see your actual frame rate. That setting in the game does not set your framerate at all. Download and use my manual a:

Just an FYI ...
The "Min. Desired FrameRate" is Not what it is actually playing at!
It is What framerate that the game engine will lose graphic details IF your framerate gets down to it!
It is the Framerate that UT will strive to stay at (not go below the rate you put in there) even if it has to lose some graphic detail to do so!
So, IF your framerate starts going below say 50 and you have your Min. Desired Framerate set at 60, the UT game engine will start throwing out graphic detail in order to maintain that 60 fps (frames per second) you set it at.
Besides, arent servers set to "tick" at 20 fps anyways? (The Admin Page says that 20 fps tick rate on servers is "Optimum")

Opinion

Post by Hermskii » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:55 pm

It is my opinion that any frame rate above 30 is vert playable. Anything above 60 is awesome. Any higher is not noticable to the human eye.

Don't try the S3TC textures unless you know what you are doing. They can easily screw up your game if you don't patch them right. So if you aren't a PC wiz, stay away from them. They won't be worth the trouble they WILL cause you.
