Yes but I have a mod on it that I have to remove before I can update it. I don't remember how I put the mod on so I'm worried that I'll break it if I try to update it.

What is that mod? Maybe there's an update also for that mod you can use too. Even doing a back-up would help.

That is what 'll do. I'll back up and then try the update. If it fails I'll just restore. The mod is the one that builds the special question in the registration page to prevent spammers.

Ah, well that mod seems to already be included in the newer version (as seen in that link I gave before: http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/ ).

As for some newer & nice mods out there, I was looking at this page: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/finding/ which has a link to all the stuff for 3.0.x, including one I'd like to see here relating to an RSS feed. Well, this could be done later in another thread asking for requests once the update has been done.
