It's bigger than I thought
I must admit I haven't really been paying attention to the news lately. I was only vaguely aware of the protests. And I thought it was all in New York city.

This brings to mind the bonus marchers of the 1930's. We are in as big an economic mess again it seems. Hope it all doesn't end the same way that the march in Washington did 80 years ago. Or the general strike that occurred in Winnipeg Manitoba in the '30's. That one ended just as badly as the Washington debacle, except it was the fuzz that beat everyone up and killed a few, rather than the army.

I'm shocked at how many people I talk to at work who know nothing of any of this. I've been watching it for weeks. Nothing good will come of this in my opinion. Nothing.

Like the topic I created already 'Are you Americans in this too?' !
Here in the Netherlands we have these protests too.
The only way to clean the corrupted systems is by taking actions. Just hope countries will not call in the army, or there is gonna be an world war 3 !!!!

Just wait. It is coming. I bet we see major violence inside of the week. These protesters are idiots.
They hate banks for making money but Steve Jobs and APPLE who made more money than all of the banks "COMBINED" is OK.
Complete and total idiots!

Steve didn't need a bail out, and even if he had, I doubt if he would have used a lot of it for rich bonuses for himself and his buddies like certain scum bags did at those investment banks.
No wonder the protesters are pissed off. Talk about thumbing your nose at the American people?!!

I hate it that Financial institutions REQUIRE you to be in debt for a good credit score. YEP!
I paid off everything except my house and guess what - Our credit score is spiraling downward now.
I could not even refinance with my own mortgager because of this.
Our credit score was nearly 1000 (about 960) - not any more - because we were responsible with our credit and paid on time and paid them off.
If you have a bad credit history, it stays with you for a LONGGGGGGG time.
Ours was virtually perfect and immaculate, we paid things off and POOF - no more credit history - in fact, they turned it into bad credit history because we paid things off! YEP!
WHY do we need credit cards and WHY WHY do we need credit scores - most of that is faulty also I found out with the credit agencies, they have very little accounting of what they put in there.
They had my address in both Texas and Virginia - like pulling teeth to correct it too.
We didn't need credit cards not so many years back, nor did we need credit scores.
Things were a LOT better - only ONE of a married couple really needed to work and so long as you paid your loans, you were in like flint. Not any more!!!
Just another way of keep us all in check and Sucking money needlessly out of us!
If the protesters are against all of this scamming and rot that the financials seem to practice and get away with in broad daylight, scams that I see happening, and experience myself from them, then I am FOR them too!
We need to Right all this rot that has gone wrong in the past few decades!

Re: It's bigger than I thought
Hook, what you said here has been in the back of my mind for some time. Recently I heard someone on a US TV station mention this sort of thing (I think it may have been on the Ellen show) and pointed out that it is a serious abuse of the credit reporting system. Is there an agency you can make a formal complaint to about your situation? Perhaps you should consider fighting back, if it's going to make it hard for you to get a fair interest rate on your mortgage.Hook wrote:I hate it that Financial institutions REQUIRE you to be in debt for a good credit score.

And speaking of the Occupy Wall Street movement, here is an insightful article by a well respected Canadian Journalist who reports from New York City, and Washington DC:

Re: It's bigger than I thought
I like this fellow, Neil MacDonald. He seems to be able to tell it like it is clearly, and succinctly:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011 ... alism.html
As he says in the article, the political fallout from all of the frustration and anger with the way the whole financial meltdown of 2008 was handled, and the way that the criminals responsible got to continue to behave criminally and get away with it is going to make for some really interesting times for all US politicians. It appears that the ancient curse "May you live in interesting times" is about to befall these guys. And not a moment too soon, in my opinion. May all the others here at home and around the world join them.
