Answer to a question

Alrighty,

Have you ever had a question that you think it should be so simple there should be answers out there already? Well I did, at least I thought I did.

I have ceiling mounted TV with VCR/DVD holder. I bought these mounts when it was tube TVs and I enjoyed them.

They are nice and have served their use.

The question I had was that these are made for tube TVs, can a flat screen/LCD/led/plasma use these same holders. According to the manufacturer, NO. The base (where the TVs sits) can be angled and such for viewing pleasure, but they have no extra support for the LCD screen.

I looked and I did not see a solution for this, eventhough it seemed like a simple issue. So I made my own answer.

With use of a threaded rod, a u-bolt, a metal strip, some nuts, bolts, and weld or epoxy. First, I epoxied or you can weld, one nut to the metal strip and one nut to the u-bolt. I then used the metal strip and two bolts and attached them to the back of the LCD TV where a wall or ceiling mount would normally mount. I then used a u-bolt and attached that to the TV mount pole that holds the mount to the ceiling. I then used a threaded bolt and connected the u-bolt and the metal strip. Adjusting the distance of the TV from the u-bolt and TV causing the LCD screen to be stabilized. The LCD will not shake or wobble unless the whole ceiling mount does. Extra support for the screen. I do not necessarily trust the base to keep the TV from tipping. I also put a bolt through the base of the TV (which already has a hold in the base for this reason) to anchor the TV to the platform.

I like that David, good idea and that looks like it works perfectly and 10x's cheaper than an actual LCD wall mount.

Thank you. About $10 of parts. I just hated the idea of not using the TV mounts that I already have and the need to buy "LCD" TV mounts when they do not have a way to hold your blu-ray/DVD/VCR.. So I was trying to be frugal and smart.

The screen does not move one bit. It is secure.....as long as the ceiling mount is hahaha

If not already done, perhaps a nut should be threaded onto the bolt that goes through the base for a little extra security? I'd also swap out that sharp ended bolt for a flat ended one that's a tad shorter. Those sharpies have a way of biting your hand the next time you're working in a tight space like that.
