GO ARGOS!!!

Post by a nameless entity » Sun Nov 25, 2012 5:58 pm

In a few minutes time the CFL 100th anniversary championship game for the Grey Cup begins. It's between Calgary and Toronto. They move the championship game around from league city to city each year, and this year it works out that Toronto is the host city for the game. So the Argonauts have the home field advantage.

I've mentioned before that I don't really follow sports, but that the CFL championship game is always an exciting game, and worth watching. It's on TSN and may be carried on another network in the U.S. if that sports network doesn't reach into the USA. If you've got some free time and you see this post in time, you might want to check it out.

Wow Toronto didn't just win, they humiliated Calgary! I expected Calgary to correct their mistakes in the second half and make some serious headway, but the Toronto defence just continued to shut them down. They were up 35-14 in the fourth quarter with 1.5 minutes left to play. Calgary had possession and managed to get 1st down twice. So Toronto basically let them get a touch down. Calgary went for the two point convert and got that, so the score was 35-22 at the end. Toronto then quite naturally just killed the last minute of the game once they had possession.

Calgary messed up badly in the second half by giving up not one, but two 15 yard penalties on the same play and putting Toronto into position to score a TD, which they did.
Calgary showed a lot of potential, but just couldn't put their game together. Toronto whipped their asses.

just sucks not to be as good as ARGOS and they were given a fair chance to win and everything. Too bad. So sad.

I feel sort of bad that i have never heard of either of these teams I'm talking about.

What do they sell? *goes to website* ahhh.... Kind of like Wal Mart. I had a look at the Timex watches for men. The one with the blue face is $59.99 at Wal Mart Canada. You're getting a bargain on that one at only 19.99 pounds. That's only $30.57 at today's exchange rate. :o

Actually the team name is the "Toronto Argonauts", as in Jason and the Argonauts. The team motto is of course "Pull Together", and one of their logos is a Greek ship themed football with a bunch of oars pulling it along.

There are a lot of Americans who like to follow CFL football. At one point the CFL felt encouraged enough to expand into the USA. And one US team actually won the Grey Cup one year. But sadly the US franchises failed after a time, and the CFL decided never to try that experiment again.

Yes, apparently he did.
More recently, American fans are aware that a number of NFL stars got their start in the CFL including Doug Flutie, Jim Kelly, and Jeff Garcia.

As only a casual infrequent sports observer who happens to greatly enjoy the CFL Grey Cup games, I must admit that I had heard of Doug Flutie and Jeff Garcia in the past but do not recall Jim Kelly's name. In general I follow the results and don't pay much attention to the personalities. :|

Yeah, everyone here knows the Doug Flutie and Jim Kelly names. I'm unsure of Jeff Garcia but if he is named with the first two, he must have been pretty awesome too. The season is about to get tough for my Texans. I'm real anxious to see how we do against the Patriots because it seems to be that we have a bad defense vs the passing game and well their QB tends to step it up when he can. Tom Brady is awesome it seems. You saw what Rogers and the Packers did to us in our only loss.
