Perhaps I should start a new thread called:
"I have become a total hypocrite!".
1)While I came close, and I mean on the brink close, of walking away from the internet once and for all, events in real life forced me to reconsider. I had already told my ISP that if I didn't get satisfaction that I would walk away from them, and got the reply that basically said: "Well, go ahead then." So I did. I terminated the contract and was all set to return their modem in a couple of days. But that's when reality bit my @$$, so after reconsidering my options, I decided "better the devil I know" and signed on for another year.
In this I am at least partly a hypocrite, because it turns out that I am communicating strictly by phone and didn't absolutely need the email address after all.
2)Partly because of
1) I ended up buying a new 23.6" flat screen monitor when my old 20" CRT Trinitron finally died. In this I am a hypocrite because I love it.
3)The city of Toronto has signed on to an easy payment system for public transit users called "PRESTO!" which deducts a fare from your prepaid card. My town buses are already on this system. So is the entire
GO Transit system of trains and buses that get you from city to city in Ontario. So it is now worth it to for me to sign on to the PRESTO system. You also get a nice discount for using PRESTO! too. When I travelled this week from Oakville to a destination in Hamilton Ontario via Oakville Transit, the GO system, and the Hamilton Street Railway bus, I used cash. If I had already had a PRESTO card I could have saved a few bucks. You not only get a discount for using PRESTO, but you also get a discount when you move from one transit authority to the next on your first fare in their territory.
I will be using the system again to get to the same place in a week or 10 days, and will save those bucks because I am now a PRESTO user. So I am also a hypocrite in this manner, because a true Luddite would use strictly cash in all transactions.
4)I still have my cell phone. I still use it only very rarely, and only as a phone.
But I didn't get rid of it so I am still a hypocrite.
Let me say right here that I take NO comfort from the fact that others in here that at least partially agreed with me have upgraded to smart phones or this or that other modern convenience, as I have read that so many of you have done. I'm still a hypocrite, and not a Luddite.
So I have failed again, and probably will continue to do so. I have not followed through on my determination to be come a Luddite.
Oh well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.......
