Twitter is full of people that don't understand twitter.
It is basically a newsfeed for some, and a chat platform for others.
Ywitter is what YOU make it do.
I follow servers and game projects that post the current status.
I follow the bands, artists and poets I like, so I can keep up with the new stuff in the world I like, but without putting in any effort to go and find it.
I follow security and tech profiles, so I see important security problems as they are being reported.
If you gauge twitter by the media focus on idiots that rant all the time, then you miss the point.
Don't follow idiots, and you don't see idiot posts.
Follow useful projects, and you see useful and relevant info.
You can search twitter with filters and keywords, for such things as #UT99 and find people asking questions or posting cool stuff.
Note: all modern servers and clans use twitter to post notifications. This means those that follow and those that search for their interests are quickly up to date.
It also means that when a site or server in down, that the players have an alternative way to find out what is going on, and to contact the admin.
Relying on the contact details that are on a site that is down means no contact.
As a site or server admin, you don't even need to follow anyone or ever look at twitter. All you do is post your events and status updates and walk away.
Fear or disgust of the unknown is not useful if you are the one covering your own eyes.

"Oh, why ? what is in the box ?"
"I don't know, I never opened it"
