Hello

Post by Hermskii » Fri Feb 16, 2007 7:24 pm

Hello all! Great to have you. Sorry about the crashes. I didn't know it was happening. The MapVote I use is supposed to remove maps that crash automatically. I chose the default map on MHM because it was small and I wanted peeps to get through it fast so they could get back to playing.

Welcome too to Mr. Hook. About time sir and it's great to have you.

For all of you, know that I will commit some time to determining what is happening that causes these crashes. Like I said, I didn't know. I do know that no one would vote for MH-Icy_Canyon so when you see it you know the server just recovered from a crash.

I'm just happy to see that you keep playing here. I'll give more info as I find it and yes, I will change the default map to a faster, smaller, shorter version of a Canyon Map. I will fix the links on the forum to launch the game too. Later!
~Peace~

So far, I have fixed the bad links on the forum so now they will launch the game again. I updated the forum to show the correct IP addresses again too since they have changed.

I aslo made some changes in regards to the DNS IP addresses I work from though that may have nothing to do with it.

I have an issue with my logging right now that is preventing me from seeing the crashes but I'll get through it and hope to be able to determine crash issues soon. That's all for now. Later! Did I forget anything?

As far as crashes go, that's always been a problem with Monster Hunt. The quality of the maps is all over the place, and the mod itself probably isn't the most stable.

I do know that Herm has worked hard to eliminate all of the really bad maps from the rotation. If you have the monster hunt mod installed in your game, (as you should) then you can find lots of other MH servers under the Monster Hunt tab. Try some of them out sometime. Especially the Ikareta server in Japan. That particular server has every evil piece of **** map that has ever been made for Monster Hunt. Play some of those to see the most senseless, useless, bizarre, and buggy maps in the whole genre. Then come back to the quality that is Monster Hunt Mayhem*.

Now as for that map that gets stuck right at the beginning if you hit the switch..... I believe you are talking about MH-Bluff. The problem with this map is that if the skaarj waiting just outside the door becomes attracted to your presence, then he will jam himself against the door trying to get at you, even before the game has started. Then, when you hit the switch to go out, the door bounces off of him, and stays shut. This can be avoided by taking advantage of your ability to "fly" around the map before the game starts. Fly through the door, and draw the skaarj as far away as he can go. Then when the map starts, hit the switch quickly.
If the next door gets stuck by hitting the brutes on the other side, you must shoot your goo gun carefully so that the goo splashes under the door and hits them on the other side. It will take a while, but you can eventually kill them this way, and open the door. Once you have opened the third door, be cruel and kill all Nali that are in the ramp to the fort area. If you do not, they will run down to the door, and possibly make it get stuck too. Then you will have no choice but to jump down into the water and head for the dock. This is also an alternative for sticking door #2. If door #1 gets stuck, you must bring up map vote and choose a new map. There is no work around.

If you do not have map vote bound to a key, wait for it to pop up at end of a map, then look for the tabs you can see at the top, find the correct tab, and choose your key. It's exactly the same as binding taunts to keys in the game. Press the button, choose your key, and you're done.

*I cannot fail to mention the other top quality MH server out there. It is Excalibur Holland******, run by El Chico Verde, or Chico for short.
Give it a try too. The folks that play there are top notch, and very helpful. I've made friends with many of the players there, and have even followed a number of them into another online game called Lineage II.

Hey m8. It can be "nameless" for short, if you like. ;)

As far as bugs go, there isn't a lot more that needs to be done. The message you see about the game being "Powered by Bigi" refers to an improvement to the mod that Bigi made. It is what gives you all that ammo, and makes the health kegs worth 500 each instead of the usual 100. The health max of 5000 is another addition. Monster Hunt without the auto ammo generation is nasty, and involves players standing around waiting turns for the ammo packs to regenerate. There was a previous mini mod that did that, but I forget what it was called. Bigi improved it immensely.
The Excalibur Holland II Monster Hunt server runs a similar kind of ammo generating mini mod of its own. Theirs has the benefit of also preventing doors from becoming stuck, like that one in MH-Bluff. ;)

The only thing left that needs to be done, *AHEM* -is for Herm to contact Chico, and get the latest versions of the maps. Chico's mappers have pretty much repaired all of the bugs that can be fixed in the MH maps that are worth running on a server. ;)

been a while since i posted here , sorry guys :(

Nameless is right on everything he said , various mappers on Excalibur did have fixed lots of maps since few months , i recommend to check the download section of the site :

http://www.excalibur-holland.net/phpnuke/index.php

you will have to register , same goes for PlanetMonsterHunt , the admins and people there got a hard time referencing lots of MH maps from various sources , and the admins completly redid the download section , there more than 200 maps in it now , and lots of them are new or fixed versions ;)

http://www.planetmonsterhunt.com/forums/portal.php

for those who want to play these maps offline , you will need the CacheConverter available here :

http://download.beyondunreal.com/filewo ... erv1.1.zip

as for me , i updated MH-Hellfire some time ago , and fixed some problems on MH-LostIntime ( you will find this version at Excal site )

check also MH-Annihilation , its been updated to version 240 ( final one , said by the author )

all these maps are availble on Nalicity :

http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com/index.php

as for the canyon map as a default , a mapper called XYZ , did a small map called MH-Glider for the excalibur MH server , that one remplaced the old MH-Cliffs which was default on this server , you could check it out ;)

MH community is still growing , and its nice to see new people joining and anjoying it , kudos to MH admins that make this mod being so great , keep up the good job Herm :)

Thanks Derdak2rot. Great post! Not taking anything from Nameless who has hounded for a long time to get busy and update my server. I never doubted him as I don't doubt you. The trouble is getting the time to identify these maps that are out of date and then downloading and uploading all of the new stuff.

I want to pat myself on the back too being it was me who got NaliCity to create a section for maps for Monster Hunt. Yes, that was all me baby!

I will get busy soon grabbing all of this new stuff you mentioned. Like Isaid before though, did they rename the newer maps to help me know which ones got changed? Example, MH-HellFire would hopefully now be called something like MH-HellFire-02-21-07 so that I know which version it is.

I'm going to register at Chico's NOW!
