Kaspersky Anti-Virus SUCKS

Post by David » Sat Dec 03, 2011 2:10 pm

Kaspersky Anti-Virus SUCKS...... I was going to try to find a polite word, but there is none to my knowledge that would adequately describe how I feel about Kaspersky.

I have decent computer. My Specs are AMD Anthlon 64x2 Dual Core processor, 3 gb of ram, two hard drive (around 250 gb and 400 gb), running XP pro SP3.....so I would say I have a decent to good computer.

I did research years ago and decided to go with Kaspersky for AV. Back then it was rated very high and did test better than the others. So I had stayed with them for years. But lately the last couple releases, I have noticed that Kaspersky is getting worse as a resource HOG. It SLOWS down my computer at start up and just forget about doing anything useful on your computer if you are doing a full scan on your computer.

I know that Kaspersky was a resource user when I first got it, but it really was not that bad at the beginning. But since 2010, releases have gotten worse concerning using resources. I have contacted Kaspersky forums, and customer support. Those who blindly follow Kasperksy or those who work for Kaspersky thinks it is on my end, such was programs that I am running. I have tested their theory and only had Kaspersky run and it is still an issue.

When I did a complete uninstall, using a Kaspersky uninstaller program that I downloaded to completely remove all remnants of Kaspersky, off my computer, it did well. I notice if you use add/remove programs or uninstall Kaspersky without using the Kaspersky uninstaller that I had, some parts of Kaspersky are still hidden in the registry and other areas of the computer and Kaspersky and will still affect your computer’s performance.

I know that there are threads about Anti-virus programs and I have participated on those threads, but I felt that I wanted to boldly and loudly state KASPERKSY SUCKS.

The only reason I stay with Kasperky is that I bought a multi year license. So I still have another year of service….

Given that we're not allowed to swear here, 'sucks' is extremely polite.

Thanks David for the info. Everyone please see the rules page again. Now that we have a better self-controlled team of folks here I changed the rules several months back. Now they just request that you refrain from profanity.

Maybe yes or I don't know.

I heared about an attack against an anti-virus company a few time ago to prove their "protection" :) .

The protection that it gives me is good I feel. In the past it has blocked or discovered stuff that other AV did not. I think Kaspersky was better than most of the AV out there at the beginning. But others AV have stepped up with better protection now and they do not use the computer resources like Kaspersky does. Kaspersky and/or followers of them always blame the users' computers for the computers being slow, when it has been documented several times over on the Kaspersky forum that the latest releases have been dragging down computers.

There was one forum member on Kaspersky that was having the same issue. He tried everything and he tried removing Kaspersky by using the add/remove program on the control panel and his computer was still slow. I then offered him advise to use the uninstall Kaspersky program that will completely remove all of Kaspersky and the computer will run as it did prior to Kaspersky. I then got chewed out publicly by a moderator and told me to mind my own business. All that leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me want to get rid of Kaspersky. I still have 344 days remaining on my license that I paid for. So I wait for it to expire and go with another AV.

All of these programs have had both good and bad times. None of them can ever stay on top for long.

Well my license expired today with Kaspersky. I have been telling myself for the last year or so that I will not renew the license because how slow Kaspersky is. Well....guess what I did?............ I used the removal tool and took that beast of burden off of my computer.

I installed the Avast Free Anti-Virus 7. I will see how that goes. It was a toss up between Avast and AVG. We will see if my computer runs better or not.

Think on it like this, Kapersky can't be that bad. Not compared to McAfee. I mean, sure, McAfee gets the big name and the higher success rate but then again, the guy that created it, Mr. McAfee himself, is currently in jail for murder.

Happened just recently.

Trippy.

He says he was framed. I like the avast myself. AVG smammed me way too much. Avast is silent mostly and it comes set up to protect unlike AVG which you have to tweak it have to death to get it to work.

That is good to know. I will hope that Avast performs well for me.

The only question I have so far is about my email. My email through my cable company goes through a gmail type email. So it requires a secure connection, but Avast stated that it can not scan because of the setting. I have found where I can change my email settings, but... I hate messing with something that worked previously.

I have been using the Avast! Free version for years. It works nicely and stays silent until something happens where some virus or malware is trying to get onto your PC.

I found out a year or so ago that you can choose "Pirate" for a language choice. So I chose that. It downloaded the "Pirate Talk" language set, and now when it updates itself I hear a ships bell, and then a voice says "Yar blacklist of dangerous sea dogs be safely aboard". It's silly, but fun. ;)
I'm a man........but I can change........if I have to........I guess
