Remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and enter the following command (copy and paste is easier then retyping it): Step 1 (copy and paste the below command): RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove Note: This will prevent a long delay when opening Outlook Express if you have the Contacts pane enabled. Step 2: To prevent this, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express, Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.
I have done this without issue for couple years. A friend of mine had MSN messenger on it and he asked me to remove it. I did as I have done in the past but it remained. I was puzzled for a little bit of time. I mean I have done this for years and on several computers. Why is it not working on his. He was xp pro like I do? Why? It sparked an interest for me to figure this out.
Well I figured it out. This is was not MSN messenger, it was Windows Live Messenger. Ahhhh.. So I found the appropriate action.
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2.In the Currently installed programs list, click Windows Live Essentials, and then click Uninstall.
3.Click Remove one or more Windows Live programs.
4.Select the programs that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
Note To completely remove Windows Live Essentials, select all the Windows Live programs.
It worked..
