What a pain the @.
What I mean by this is the following. (I did think about putting this in the vent thread but it could be useful to others so... here it is in its' own thread). If I connect the Laserjet 1200 directly (usb cable) to my wife's laptop, it recognizes it and assigns the correct driver and it works. No big deal it works like it is supposed to.
NOW, do the same except instead of connecting directly to the printer using the usb cable and install the printer as a network printer from another computer and you will have issues. It states that it can not find the driver for the printer (eventhough earlier you had the printer up and running when it was connected via usb cable).
Anyways, after online research I discovered a solution that worked so I can connect to the Laserjet 1200 that is on the network. I thought it might be useful to others. I made some changes today on my wife's laptop and had to go through the headache of connecting the printer to my wife's laptop again. Then I remembered that I kept the notes on how to do it from before and it made it nice and simple. Here it is.
Laserjet Driver for Windows 7 64 Bits
After further investigation I found this which solved the problem:
Go to: Control panel then Settings then Add Printer
Choose "Add a local printer". Click on "Create a new port". Use Local Port.
Next dialogue box is "Enter a Port Name."
Type in the path to the printer: \\computer name\printer name
Then select the proper driver, and print a testpage.

I have to look up those directions a few times a year for my system. My win 7 player PC runs the shared printer. Several other computers are in the house. Who would have thought that Microsoft could make it so hard to use a printer through a network. LOL. Sometimes I hate them.

My new printer is on wireless network.
However, only my new computer can use it - or phones, etc.
But my old comp supposedly does not have the capability - we'll see.
