Crossfire v.s. SLI
Since I just bought a new monitor, I am of course starting to think more seriously about getting a new computer some day. For a time there seemed to be a large divide in the gaming world of AMD v.s. Intel. If you went Intel you would of course go for SLI if you wanted the best possible gaming your rig could provide, and crossfire if you chose an AMD processor. And it seemed that this divide was similar to the Xbox, PS3, & Nintendo debacle where a really cool game might be available for one platform, but completely unavailable for the others for various reasons.
The question now is, does that divide still exist between AMD and Intel? Or is it hopefully becoming less of an issue with the latest software being written for both?
This is something I must look in to at some point. Do any of you know what's up with this at the moment?

Yes. the divide still exist. Intel is now better, the end. This game is old. Don't spend money to improve your PC for this game. Others? Yes. UT? No.

Processors and graphics cards now days i dunno but to me seem over kill lol, its as if they have progressed faster than i can be bothered to keep up. Seriously graphics card specs are ridiculous now days, and games seem to be wayy behind them.
I think when the next gen consoles release (xbox720, PS4) then we will see games to fully work these cards and blow our minds.
I think its because game devs are still working around these 6 year old pc equivalent specs as console gaming seems to dominate money making wise now days.
Crossfire and SLI do people still need that? Single cards the high end ones now have dual gpu's and massive memory.

Re: Crossfire v.s. SLI
Wow did intel come out with a better chip than AMD now?
My new comp has an AMD Vision II in it.
I was leery of AMD and was wanting an Intel, but the comp I wanted had the AMD.
I told Beagle(aka MeerKat) about it.
He worked as an electronic engineer for Intel for many years - now retired.
He said that new Vision AMD was better than anything Intel had - at the time anyway - and was very good.
He also worked on the HP All-in-one computers, like I got, but more on the commercial versions.
So I was surprised about the AMDs - So far, I really like it.
PS: My new computer runs UT99 perfectly!

Re: Crossfire v.s. SLI
Hey Hook, does your new PC have an ATI video card in it? I'm guessing it does, and if so, which model?
Chico and the members of Excalibur Holland used to like AMD processors if I remember correctly. But they preferred Nvidia graphics cards.
I have a feeling that now that AMD and ATI have merged it will be a lot harder to put a set of Nvidia cards into an AMD based mobo. At least without using up valuable slots if you want SLI, and you'd have a useless crossfire slot just sitting there on the mobo.
The review I read on crossfire a few years ago seemed to suggest that the crossfire slot was different from PCIe and wouldn't accept those cards.
It seems that it's getting harder to mix and match your PC's bits and pieces. What a shame.

Re: Crossfire v.s. SLI
Intel has owned AMD ever since the first dual core proc I'm pretty sure and I have always been a AMD fan. I'm just saying what I think is right. Any PC faster than a Pentium III 1000mhz and a video card better than a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP 16mb SDRAM is pure overkill.
This UT(99) requires far less of a computer than any of us use currently. If this game doesn't run like butter on your PC......you have set something wrong.

Not really, it's actually the other way around and it has always been. See the the UEngine 3 Samaritan demo, they had to use about 3 high-end graphic cards just to be able to render that in real time.-SuPreMe- wrote:Processors and graphics cards now days i dunno but to me seem over kill lol, its as if they have progressed faster than i can be bothered to keep up. Now with UEngine 4... let's just say that it wasn't released yet solely because of one thing: lack of good hardware to run it.
Epic Games is pretty much pushing hardware developers to do better stuff, yet they do not seem to be able to push it enough (at least not at a reasonable price, which is the most important thing in the gaming industry).

Re: Crossfire v.s. SLI
I have been using AMD for quite awhile and had no problems
I think Intel and AMD are about the same just the name is different lol
In my new puter I am building i have a biostar extreme MB and a phenom 2 X 4 cpu
and my other one i am building alls I need is a MB and cpu I got everything else for that one.
As for the video cards I think thier being rediculous lol
consoles are fine but I like the PC better, you can do more with a pc then a console.
