What were you doing when it gave you the error? Booting UT or loading a map?

I think I have gotten something similar more than a few times over the years. Assertion failures are rather common. So are "general protection faults". When you get one of those, you get a huge window with a ton of that jargon in it. :?

If you knew any scripting you could look at line 780, to see what it is chokeing on.

Fresh is good too.

Patch

Post by Hermskii » Sat Aug 27, 2005 10:06 am

I have researched these errors before and I can say it is the code in the patch. You can't do anything about it at all. Also, Make sure that you applied the UTPG patch properly. There are steps to doing it. It doesn't just load on top of a brand new retail installation that is level 4.02 I think. You have to install 436 first and then 451 then 451b. Once I got it on right, the errors stopped completely. Go to UTPG website and start at the bottom and work your way up. Don't install the 440 patch as you go up and all should then be well.

UTPG Website wrote:There are reports that have been confirmed that UnrealEd still doesn't function after putting 451b on. The fix would be to make a backup copy of UT (just copy your UT folder) and then use that 436 for UnrealEd and the 451 for play/servers. We will be digging further into the UnrealEd bugs and try to get a fix out for it.
OK... I'm NOT going to install this if it's true! ;)

Oh, okay, so this is another tale of woe related to that 451 patch? It's supposedly just for UT servers, but what does it do? As a player-only I run the 436 patch, and have no problems. MOST of the time. :o

Variances

Post by Hermskii » Sat Aug 27, 2005 4:07 pm

For my player only install, I just use the 436 patch and it works fine. For the servers, I used the 451 patched up to 451b method. Patch 451 is not for servers only. It is for both but I never saw any real reason to use it on my player install so I didn't. If you only play and don't actually run any UT servers, I would suggest that you just use Patch 436. Nr.2000, I don't want to see you even touch 451 please. Just keep working the way you have been.

No, not that error, but sometimes when I enter a UT game my "player" always points to the sky.
