Yep
You would think right? Here is the deal. The server is a ABIT Kt7A version 1.3 and it is the last of all 4 versions being 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and finally, 1.3.
The first three versions all use one kind of BIOS and my version uses another. The systems are very much alike but there is a serious difference in the hardware somewhere. I recall doing lots of BIOS testing a while back while trying to break a overclocking world record and I have several versions of my server's motherboard here. I must have gotten confused at some point and installed the wrong one on the server.
Here is the saddest part: It let me put on the wrong one almost 2 years ago and today it would not let me put back on the right one. I spent about 4 hours trying to get the right one installed. I used the directions from ABIT's very own website and they were bad. I ended up going through a different forum and found the fix. The server now has the most recent proper BIOS available. Now here is some more info for you all that I posted somewhere else already:
I have found bad sectors on my new hard drive for the servers AND just found out today that I have had the wrong BIOS installed for a pretty long time! To add to the agony, I've also just determined that at least one of the 3 sticks of Crucial 512mb P133 CAS 2 ram is bad. I have run Memtest86-3.4 several times and it crashes with errors each time. I have to send them all back to get replaced. The server will be on and off for the next few weeks. More off than on I'm afraid.

Re: Yep
Here's something odd: on an Italian forum someone had the same RAM error using Memtest86-3.4 but no errors using memtest86 v1.7Hermskii wrote: I have found bad sectors on my new hard drive for the servers AND just found out today that I have had the wrong BIOS installed for a pretty long time! OK
That would indicate to me that the newer version is better at detecting issues or the newer version is just trying ti get people to buy more ram.
I installed a 2nd memory tester and tried it too on this computer and the server. I got it here:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
It is a good little test too. Not as good as Memtest86-3.4 in my opinion. I say that because this test never stops. It never gives you a final answer. You have to be sitting there watching it to see when a certain memory test fails. I sat through 4 different test before 1 finally failed.
Using Memtest86-3.4 I was able to start it and walk away. I came back the next morning and it was done with a result that I could see and understand.
Both memory test passed my player PC and both failed the server. Time for new memory and a new hard drive for the server.

Yes
Yes that email link should work but I'm doing OK on the hardware right now. Did you try to send me an email? I did not get one. Not only is this computer important to me because it is the server for my servers but it is also the first computer I ever built for myself AND it currently holds a world's record for having the fastest possible processor in it. The PC makers (ABIT) "OFFICIALLY" only support up to a XP2100 processor in it. The old world record was for having about a XP2400 running in it successfully. I managed to get an XP3000 to run it in and thus clobbered the world's record. Right now I have it back to a XP2100 but I will go back up to the XP3000 pretty soon I hope. It was part of getting the record that got the wrong BIOS installed on it. Hehehe. If I didn't mention it already, I have the right BIOS back on it now. Now I just need the memory to be replaced and another hard drive. CYA!
