There will never again be a group of people like we had back in the SRA days. That's why I was there and if that sort of group can't exists anymore there's little point in me waiting around for it to happen. I'm just glad I was there when it was GREAT. My whole good sport rant was a goofy effort to convince people that the only way to have a server of friends is to exercise proper sportsmanship and to check all egos at the door. That's not going to happen.

I hate to see me leave too. It's a character flaw. I'm too sensitive to bad attitudes and the remarks that go with them. At the risk of sounding (in Herm's words) 'happy' I confess, the slanderous remarks hurt and they make me feel bad. Not just the ones directed at me, but just to 'hear' all the needless things said out there and to know that every remark is based on nothing more than winning or losing at a video game, well it begins to outweigh the parts of the experience I do enjoy.
What's really messed up is I was thinking, if we all met at some beautiful spring day picnic and played ball, ate BB-Q, exchanged histories and stories, etc. I'd be willing to bet that after that exposure we would all find it more difficult to say anything negative toward each other! Even stranger is that the 'new' attitude would at least be based on something real rather than a game.
I don't know if it's possible, but I wish there could be an album section here so that members would upload pics of different things that are a part of their lives and world. We would see things...pets, family, cars and all the other toys that we collect and play with and through that a sense of knowing each other would arise. We could put faces with the names and see that we're all just people on the same big boat. We would turn into friends and friends don't like to hurt each other lol.
Really, I'm just weird and I know it. I don't really belong in these sort of groups and I know that too. Hence the years long delay in me joining.
I know one thing that we can all agree on though and that's the fact that we want to have fun. So, maybe defining fun is more appropriate. We all know what fun is and what ruins fun. So just don't do and say the things that ruin fun. Do no harm.
Let's be at least honest about the issue. Humans are ego driven and damn near every single negative event that occurs out there is based on ego to some degree. If ego didn't exist these things wouldn't even happen.
I had more fun in the SRA days getting my butt kicked simply because I wasn't ostracized or made fun of over my lack of experience. Instead I was brought into the conversations, made to be a part of the group, encouraged and helped. I got more answers to my questions than just, 'practice'. SRA wasn't stingy with their knowledge and I was shown what I was doing wrong, where the good spots were and how to survive. I learned it all there. It was a group of friends where now we have a group of acquaintances that tolerate each other at best. There has to be a way to allow losing to be palletable and the only time I see that happen is when one loses to a friend.
I understand too that some play this game strictly to be the bully. That's what gets them off and for a bully to lose is a huge attack on a already inflated ego. There's little wonder that these kind react the way they do. Not much can be done for those I know.
Anyway, I reckon I'm just getting old:)

Well it's true the old days are dead and gone...but that doesn't mean we have to give up
on UT and what's left of those that play redeemer.
And I think we have enough regulars to where all we need to do is organize those that play
now and get some kind of camaraderie going.
I'm doing my best to meet and greet all newbie to my server and I think we all need to do that.
Make them feel welcome and get them to visit and register here at HOH.
Plus, there are so many regulars now that play that have yet to post or register here.
We need to stick together as a group, befriend one another and not scare others off.
Sure it's going to take some work and doubt it's going to change the whole.
But it's the regulars that keep the redeemer servers alive and if we lose them...well I guess
I'll have to go back to looking at porn on the internet.

Hey SilentBob, sounds like you've been taking classes in pyscology and or philosophy lately. Your views are deep with observation and conjecture. That is all good. Yes, the days of SRA are long past and gone but servers like it will live on. Mine especially! I haven't played the UZI mod yet but I hear it is fun. There is nothing wrong with moving on or trying other things or least nothing wrong with it until I find out and hunt you down like a dog and kill you for leaving. No, I'm just kidding naturally but want to stress to everyone that I don't think SilentBob is leaving but rather he is saying it could be likely if the EGOs can't be checked in at the door.

This game is old. Other things come up and people move on. That is OK. It happens. I'm already resolved to the idea that UT will die some day but I want to be a part of it till the very end and I'm sure several of you including SilentBob feel the same way. Cool! Then I'll see you there and if I don't see you there thanks for dropping in. We need to have that kind of attitude I think and then everything else will happily fall into place. Wipes gentle tear away from cheek. No not really but it was pretty good right? I do feel this way though. Hey people, it's all good. That's how I see it.

UT dying? I don't see it.
Has anyone tried getting on to *TNTSniper Playground lately?
It's freestyle sniper and jam packed all evening!
They have a great community and are all great sports with "ns" and "ty".
Cryptkeeper manages it well and there's a great selection of maps.
They continue to grow as other servers really do have some bad sports.
I occasionally post there too (tntsniperteam.com) and say nice things about the people here, inspite of MEAT's crankiness!

For a while there, it seemed like it was dying a slow death. Not many people coming in. I find lately, there is a growing number of new people coming in.

Honestly, I'm here untl the end. I started playing this game about 8 years ago, maybe longer. I saw the different clans coming in...the DOUs and others. Maybe I'm naive, but, WTF is a clan ? When you join can you leave? Honestly, I'm stating the way I am.

I've tried Xbox..Nintendo..playstation...in my opinion, they have too many freakin buttons. I'm happy with my mouse and keyboard thank you very much. I like simple...I love blowing up DON DON in the My City map...and I always expect to get telefragged by Meat and KK...it's all part of the fun. Do I get all pissy when that happens, of course not and if I do...I leave.

Sorry to rant everybody...but I'm a UT lifer.

Yo Hook...yeah, i get pretty pumped up as well. Especially when you check out the Deemer servers...and you see 5 to 10 people on it...and all you want to do is get on there and show them your stuff.

For a while there, it seemed like it was dying a slow death. Not many people coming in. I find lately, there is a growing number of new people coming in.

I'm not a numbers guy like gopostal but I have seen a decline in players lately.
At one time I use to keep a log of names and IP's and I had close to 300 names.
But now it's down to about a handful.
Plus I'm not seeing the clan members anymore since my server
acted up. Or the few newbies that I kind of took under my wing.
And I'm not seeing them at other redeemer servers so something happened
to them.
No, it's dying...just look at all the empty servers on your UT browser.
Sad but true...
