Oh c'mon mannnn! Yes! I mean No. Well, I don't know.

Consider this. MRS had the largest following of most of the deemer servers for a few years. That is awesome! I think that the best excuse for why there may be less to little traffic there now is because of you Klownz. No. Actually think about it. His IP address has changed several times in the very recent past.

An IP change is the worst thing that can happen to a server especially a good and popular server. If MRS sits still long enough they will come first of all and others will come back second of all. It is the rule. Build it and they will come. Treat players nice and they will stay.

It saddens me to read the things I do on the logs when it comes to people trying to get other people to leave CG to play on other servers but in the end I don't care because no matter what CG will weather every storm of change and preferment out there. Yeah, I just made up that word! I actually don't care if people play on other servers or prefer them to mine but I do prefer that they continue to enjoy mine when they do play at other locations. I did not build the thing for nothing.

Luckily, I have not had to modify anything hardly on CG for about 4-5 years now. One thing people like, especially old people and especially old players is consistancy and being able to play without being hassled by competitive players. CG continues to offer that and will continue to do so until I or the game dies. Which ever comes first! Right now CG is getting of traffic.

IF MRS is actually slowing down lately it is not because of MEAT or you. It is because of IP changes. I hear too many good things about MRS and MEAT trying to teach people the ways of the dark-side of the Redeemer mod. Hehehe. But really....I hear good things about MEAT all of the time and how he tries to help people. The new task at hand should be to get personal with the folks that do show up and never ever win by more than 3 frags unless you know the other player so well it is OK to slaughter them and have them keep coming back for more. That is OK.

Actually, I play on all the DEEMER servers. It really depends. I like to go where there is a warm body that I can blow up. If there is no one on them, I'll pick and choose which one to go on.

If I want a slow tempo and telefrag bots, I'll go on CG...if I want bots that are more aggressive, I'll go on MRS...If I want something really different, I'll go on RVH...depends on the mood.

I try and get the other regulars that use CG to go on MRS or RVH, but they never take the bait.

Not the Klownz. You know why Klownz prefers not to play on CG. Though we have had the debates about spawnkill it's CGs speed that is #1 on the Klownz list. Klownz thinks the speed and the bot skill level needs to be cranked up. Keep your spawnkill if you had larger maps to prevent spawnkill point camping. Klownz vastly prefers Redeemer Blitzkreig . . . .

Klownz just had this debate. Klownz does not play to win but by the same token Klownz does not play to lose either. Kill enough and winning takes care of itself. Playing is suppose to be fun and enjoyable, not keeping it close so we do not hurt peoples feelings. If it's not enjoyable for the players then they shouldn't play. Klownz would think one of the most frustrating things for a new player would be spawn killing. The newbie has no chance. Yet Klownz still see's spawnkilling at CG. Don't you think you could keep a lot more new players if that did not happen. If you're going to talk about cultivating new players then that would be a big first step. Give the newbie a fighting chance.

Agreed. Klownz thinks there are simply too many redeemer servers out there now. Klownz built {RVH} for when MRS was too busy. Traffic is down on MRS which is why Klownz will most likely close {RVH} soon . . . .

At this point in time we only have a hand full of people playing Redeemer and like
Elvis said I think most do hop around to find a warm body.
But overall UT99 is dying or is dead...and those still playing have a comfort level. They find
a server/map they are good at or think they are good at and stay and play.
It's part of what I call "Evolution"...some people just don't want to evolve or get better.
They stay in their happy place...it's comfy and warm...somewhat like minnows in a corner,
they that don't want to be eaten by the sharks.

And I'd also have to agree with Hermskii...my servers IP has changed five times in it's life.
That's not good for business...lol
But again, UT99 is dead. I use to keep and kind of still do, a list of names/IPs of playings
that would frequent MRS. I have hundreds of names/IPs that I don't see anymore.
I use to have two different clans that played for about a year straight...they are gone.
I'm not getting the European players like I use to get...I don't even see their names on any other
servers out there, it seems that they have all just vanished....moved on.

One other thing...You do see players on CG and [UT]RedeemerField that you don't see on MRS or RVH.
And for years I have frequent other Redeemer servers, under an alias of course, to ask questions.
A little investigation work...inquiring minds want to know right...and I got a lot of different answers.
For example:
...back in the day players didn't know about MRS and today maybe some still don't?
...comfort level...some are to lazy to learn new maps, it's like starting over.
...tried it once and didn't like it...maps were to big...goes back to that comfort thing.
...The "old" MEAT never gives a break. He telefrags me all the time.
...I heard this one a few times...MEAT uses a cheater mod.
And I agree, not about the cheater mod, but I use to DRUM players to death.
I never gave a break and new players don't like that...and some old players don't like it either.
I saw the same thing over at CG when I was coming up.
New players would come in and the so called "better players" would drill them. I use to get drilled.
But I didn't leave, I presisted and got better...and some of the "better players" didn't like getting
beat by me. So back in the day I ran off "better players" and newbies...that was the "old" MEAT.

But overall it's a fact that all UT99 servers are dying...just look around.
And to put a finger on why some server are dying faster...good question...lol

One other thing...You do see players on CG and [UT]RedeemerField that you don't see on MRS or RVH.

Klownz makes a good point about how can I or how could I expect new players to show up when if they did they got caught in the loop of poop and hated it to the point that they left. We (being me and many of the old players) discussed this often. You are right, we ended up making more players go away than stay but in the quality of the person the player was, we scored big-time!

Look at MEAT. I'll use him as an example. He showed up and hated it! HATED IT I tell you. He'd post on the forum all the time how much it was stupid about fighting and scoring based on spawn killing etc etc. He hung in there though. There were times to play on CG. If you wanted to practice and get better you never showed up between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM at night or you'd get owned. You had to look and see who was playing and decide if you felt lucky that day and at that time. MEAT toughed it out, He got better and listen to me. MEAT used to suck badly. BADLY I say. But now I can surely say that he is certainly one of the best active players currently and in my opinion of all time. I'd put him in the top 3 depending on the server and the mods and the maps on that server. There I said it MEAT. Stop smiling now.

There are other players that stayed and never really got any better. I won't mention names but it didn't matter really. It was about the community the whole time. It was never about the competition to me and to most. It was about getting stuck in funny and or lucky or non-lucky situations with people that you knew were laughing as you were chasing them down with a Deemer. It is funny to kill the same player 5 times in 10 seconds and it should be funny when it happens to you. We all laughed about it way into the back then. We noticed when people got better. KindBud is another example. He played for years at the same level then suddenly blew up into a power player for sure. He is another one of the best I ever saw. Silent Bob sucked in the beginning and never was even a contender but what he lacked in the game he more than made up for in the chatbox with his personality. Now look at him. He's freaking awesome and has been for years. Don Don hasn't changed a bit. He just likes to show up and play. He never talks to me and that is OK but to each his own.

I disagree that UT is dying. I think that it has aged for sure but not so much dying more than ever before. Like this forum there are certain people who will stick with it and I think those folks are still around and trying other things. We keep getting new players as we lose old ones.

I used to be a pro killer back several years ago - I still am pretty good at regular DM UT - now I don't play as often and I play now mainly for fun and fellowship.
I feel sad sometimes as I see myself failing so bad lately - old age coming!

Some of you keep saying that UT99 is dying - you have been saying that for years.
It just keeps coming though.
I just don't see it that way at all!
The numbers still are there! (surprisingly they are) They go up and down but they keep playing.
The other day, there were about 1,600 players playing on a total of about 1,300 servers.
On a week day!
I haven't seen more players than servers for a while! (nice to see it again)

No it's safe to say...It's dying if not dead.
7 years ago you'd have a thousand players on UT...now if we're
lucky we get a couple hundred...maybe.
And if you look at your server browser you'll see more servers then players.
That's not a good sign.
But I agree, players come and go but most are gone...
The only new players we see now are sniper rejects.

But I do suggest we pool are resources and know-how and get this
Redeemer mod out to the general public...or to those still playing UT99.
When my server first appeared on UT I was on everything telling people
about it. I was on different forums and web sites...I was on other
peoples servers talking about my server...I didn't care and it worked.
I had people waiting in line to play my server.
We need that excitement again...we did to get the word out to those
still breathing and bleeding UT99.
