Good call there Gopostal. I want to add a little too. I see both sides of this discussion actually. SB makes several very valid points especially when it comes to the way the original mod was played by the original players.

MEAT makes a strong point in that when you get into the details of competition portion of this mod, it is more fair to set up a server such as his and play like that.

Swing it back around to SB's point about people having a choice and not having MEAT's opinion be forced down their throats. Swing back to Gopostal's point and several others, MEAT has brought plenty to this mod over the years and should have an opinion that should be heard. Swing back around again and you are at my point which is that it is a free country and people can play what they want when they want. People can go to almost any server and say what they want but sheer politeness dictates that when you advertise your product you should do it on your own time, and on your own server or forum and not on the competion's.

I've seen plenty of people get out of line here before and I usually let it blow by which usually it does. Sometimes old affairs flare up again too. I want everyone to take a breath and settle down a little bit. I think that if you like to play a certain way then do it on servers designed to play that way. If nobody is there then maybe that set-up is not as cool to everyone else as it is to you. Don't play at or speak badly of the players or the servers that you don't play at. I don't.

While openly disagreeing with MEAT on a number of UT related subjects I can tell you that he is a great guy and I never actually get mad at him because he has enough merit in his points to forgive his shortsightedness too. I have also always had a strong respect for Silent Bob over many more years than ever even knowing MEAT. SB is a SRA original and thus understands what can't be understood by many new players and MEAT. Each of you are big enough to walk away from this I hope while remaining here with the rest of us. You owe it to the rest of the players to take 2 chill pills and call me in the morning. I won't make you kiss and make-up but I will ask for patience with each other and me. That is all.

I said or did nothing wrong...SB is attacking me for saying there
are better players them him...I didn't say he sucked or anything.
SB is a great player but Hermskii...you and I know there are better players
or should I say were better players...is that better?

If anything this is the second time SB attacked me and you took
up for him. Am I missing something there?
From my understanding SB can careless about winning or losing.
So why is he getting so pissed off is beyond me.
I on the other hand care about winning and losing and I do care about
the future and past of UT/Redeemer mod... so I do
have strong opinions.
And my opinions are valid because I have put a mark on this game/mod.
And for SB to attack me for the second time and Hermskii to ask me to cool it
is not understandable.

I think this is all about a lack of focus. The focus I'm speaking of is our perception. We all have different ones and nobody can argue that. Repeatedly I hear things said that bring focus to certain things that certain people want focus on. At the same time other people come in and try to bring focus somewhere else and about something else.

Many negative things have been brought to light here in this thread and on countless others. What is the truth to one or many may be false to one or many others. Perception then kicks in here bigtime. One person may say one thing and mean something but another will read it and understand it with a different meaning due to perception.

In short, we have all said many things that we may feel is correct but they have been quietly dismissed by others here. Some things seem to keep coming up and after a while the perception of those things become so negative to those who don't feel the same way overcome patience and good naturedness (Yes, I just made up that word too) that more gets said and adds to the problem. This thread started with a simple question. I'm sure I answered it in my first response and I'll just stick with that answer and hope this non-constructive thread makes it into the long lost history books.

This is where I suggest everyone else here does the same. Now lets see what happens.

UT99 is a fun game and I like the redeemer mods in particular.
Some players are more opinionated and some are more sensitive. Isn't that life?
Some servers have low grav, offer spawn protection or no translocators.
The point is, it's a GAME .
Have fun playing it.
If it ain't fun, don't complain, just leave.

We should all support our Redeemer server operators by playing them all.
For now, to me, it's still FUN STUFF.

Actually I don't build maps, never have...but yes, I do like the competitiveness of a one on one bout.
There is a thrill, an excitement, a rush you get when you're not trying to kill a room full of bots.
No bots, no spawn kills...only one target and he has the same thought in mind...to find you.
It's the same individual elimination process you see in most, if not all, games/sports worldwide to
see who is the best player.
I feel it's the only way one can really call himself the best player among players.

Some day, all redeemer players will get along with each other.
This will be the day when we all actually understand what all sides in the great redeemer-how-to-play debate is understood by all involved.
There are a few of us such as Hermskii, SilentBob, FuzzBall and some others - old and new players who understand it already.
We all play it using all the techniques.
There are many ways to play redeemer and they are all skilled ways.
Granted, some players just "spray" aimlessly and some "glide" aimlessly, but maybe that is FUN for them!
There's that weird word again - "FUN"!!! (Remember FUN?)
Spraying CAN be skilled spraying and guiding CAN be skilled guiding.
They are BOTH used and SHOULD be both used in games and the use should be gaged by the map and the situation of that particular match or bout.
