Discussion on MHMIII's gametypes

I'd like to begin the dialogue by asking what people really want. Please if you respond to this, be open and honest and forthright.

I have watched the server the last little bit and of an evening/night it's becoming more and more DM/JB. Looking over the logs, I'm guessing 40% of the games played are non-MH. Now that's fine but I think we are getting away from what the server was intended for. The extra gametypes were added as a fun "extra" but reading the chat logs have been enlightening. Players (almost totally non MHM) are viewing the server as a place to go and play vanilla DM and JB, not as a true MH server. You can see this in the voting logs. Two, three players jump in then all vote JB or DM and there are 4 or 5 or 6 non MH games in a row. It's starting to become a wait now in the evenings to get to an MH map.

Now there is nothing wrong with the other games but my opinion is that if you want to play those, you should find a server catering to those mods. MHM is a monsterhunt server and should be that exclusively. Players are free to check the browser, find an empty pub server for insta or JB or whatever and join up there until they are ready to play MH again. There are enough empty servers that one can always be found. If not, it takes about 15 seconds to fire up a dedicated server out of your home and host it exactly the way you want it. I think serious consideration should be given to removing the non MH gametypes, adding TMH and its set of maps, and running the server as a dedicated monster killing server.

I would like this as the mapvote menu: MH List (1) - MH List (2) - TMH - FUN (Which contains iDM & DM).

i agree with hellfire. Get rid of JB add TMH but keep DM maybe iDM and change the damn gamespeed its like quake 3 at the moment and the gamespeed dont play well with the lag.

Yeah for instance right now it is on JB-Curse with 5 non-MHM players. Now I have to wait until they leave to play any MH on it.

Now it's JB-Deck...One more I'm gonna change it myself.

I do agree on the gamespeed part, because lag sucks, I do not agree on TMH, I mean how many TMH maps have been made so far? I guess 10 maps or so in total... On the other hand, currently players vote mostly for JB and instaDM maps... Meh. :| Well if you really want to remove JB, then get rid of instaDM as well.

My personal opinion:

+ No TMH. Like POTS said, there are not enough maps.

+ Speed is really easy to be changed, I'll do it next time I join, and it can be changed.

+ Don't remove JB or DM. When I first thought of MHM3 I thought on a place for MHM'ers to have good MH fun and also Ppl vs ppl. I think if you remove Ppl vs Ppl MHM3 will lose its point, we wouldn't be offering anything different or attractive to MHM'ers. Another common only-MH server is not attractive at all to me.

+ Yes, there are many Ppl vs ppl servers out there, but until MHM3 (or MHM2 before) we, the MHM'ers, never played DM or JB together before (don't forget also that there are almost none JB servers). And also we've been enjoying it very much. If MHM3 had any success until know it's because it offered us something different: the blend of MH and Ppl vs Ppl; no matter what were your skills, I has been fun. If you make MHM3 an only MH server then you're taking away from us the only place we had for having some fun and not lame Ppl vs Ppl.

In fact, removing Ppl vs Ppl is like killing MHM3 for me. We already have a good only MH server (MHM), it just make no sense to me on making MHM3 a copy of MHM. If MHM3 is full with people doing DM or JB, then go to MHM1: both are part of the same community.

Actually I totally disagree with the idea of removing Ppl vs Ppl from MHM3.

I like the MHMIII settings alot more than MHM and you can't really expect me to go there and be a normal player again :)

The JailBreak and Deathmatch make a nice change for just about everyone except me, especially because everyone complains constantly about the shield belt, invisibility and amplifier but when you try to solve the problem you get taken down 3 notches by you-know-who :roll: .
It's nice to have the variety but I'm getting tired of having to spectate for half an hour whilst everyone kills eachother :evil:
I myself would be happy if DM-JB had a mass cycling system where you can only vote for 2-3 maps before they all get redded out for awhile...

Either that or we get an Jail Break Mayhem server :lol:

I have tried to figure some way out to control cycling of the gametypes but mapvote is not robust enough to handle it. Couple that with the problems that develop when you run too many gametypes (having to often reset the server because the monsterhunt mod loads with DM in error) and it just means you are trying to do too much.

Bio hits it right on the head. I'm tired too of having to wait 3-4 matches every night to play a little MH. It wouldn't be so bad if the alternate gametypes were "alternate" but they approach half of the voted maps.

I just looked at the browser. At this very moment are 12 dedicated JB servers with probably 150+ player slots and not one single player. There are also innumerable insta DM servers, mostly empty. It takes no time at all to look at the browser, find an empty server and post the IP ingame, "Hey let's all go play some JB here for a while". It's not like removing the gametype from one server removes the option to play together.

It may not be a popular decision but I think I will make MHMIII a dedicated MH server. Admins can still admin call up a JB or insta map but it won't be voteable. The whole idea of MHMIII was to have a place like MHM but different enough to be an option. We have gotten away from that, and are moving towards being a DM server that hosts MH too.

Herm had some really good advice for me. He told me to stop trying to cater to every single person because you can't make everyone happy. He's so right, as usual. He would not run a multiserver, and now I know why.

well i think we should have TMH even tho there aint many maps for it the few it has are of a high quality. JB im not bothered if it stays or not.

I guess I have to agree with everyone about TMH (to less maps).

Now I only can play Insta DM if Reiyel or POTS is on the server.. :?

Yeah...JB is now a Root Admin privelige, you can find it in your Nexgen panel. :)

And may I ask, wtf is Team Monster Hunt!? :|

Team mh pits two teams against eachother, the goal is still to beat monsters but another goal is to do so faster than the other team.
It's a nice gametype, although it does not have too many maps (Most of the maps are made by me, maybe there's two others that made one or two maps.. believe me, a single mapper doing all the maps alone does not make the map list become longer too fast.)

OK, It's like MH but you can't stop to have fun, can't stop to type, are in competetion with other players...why not just put a monsterspawn mutator in the AS maps... :|
