UT99 dying?

Post by Killer Klownz » Sat May 16, 2009 1:39 pm

Is UT99 Redeemer Mod dying slowly and painfully or is it just summer coming up?
Evil is obvious only in retrospect.

I'd say a bit of both if years past are any kind of measuring stick. It usually slowed down in the warmer months when folks are more apt to take vacation and travel and of course when school is out, famililes with kids are usually busier. And too, 99 is getting a bit long in the tooth as well, still hanging in there, but 10 yrs is real old for a FPS game. I've noticed that lots of folks that I've played with are turning away from gaming as time is a precious commodity for most these days and gaming can eat up a crap load of time

It's dead for the most part...but there are the few "hanger-ons" still playing.

Oh, the Chef (And Hermskii -> Alive and well here!) said it just perfect I think. :P
Lots of people say UT99 is "dead"; always have!
I have heard that for many years now and from a lot of people out there.
As far back as I can recall there have always been people saying UT99 is dead.
I dunno - it just seems to keep going and going. :?

Jack Van Impe (spelling?) and his wife on TV has been telling us over and over and for quite a number of years that the world is coming to an end very soon - usually implying that it will happen within a year or so.
Jack and his wife always say "The world is dead and we will see this very soon"!
Jack V. has been saying this (and selling books and videos) as far back as I can remember also.

Hmmmmmmmmm...
MEAT - are you "selling" UT99 by saying it is dead and scaring people into "buying" into UT99?
The Jack Van Impe of UT99? MEAT Van Impe?

Well, I have seen some very impressive numbers of people still playing UT99 lately!
At times still numbering near a few thousand players - alas not a lot on Redeemer servers.
Some servers are packed to capacity pretty consistantly - like some sniper servers, etc.
But, YES, Early Summer has always slowed a bit - UT seems to go in cycles through the year.
It is probably going into the usual Early Summer down swing as do most games, etc.

Is UT99 dying? - ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Anybody who even thinks that does NOT know ME or Hermskii very well at all!
We'll keep it going and we'll also give it a Kick in the Arse when needed! :P

Now, I'm going to go play UT on {CMM} and just count how many players join me!

I'm not saying dead as in "inactive"...I'm saying dead as in there's not a lot of new blood running out buying UT99.
The people you see now playing are "hanger-ons"...either they come and go or they come over from other servers.
This game will last forever with "hanger-ons" but it's not like it was 5-8 years ago.
As for servers dying...most are DEAD yes, as in inactive...but that's another story.

{MHM}Blades just joined. He's 13!
Most of today's FPS games are based on the Unreal engine.
If you want the experience without taking up 6GB of disk space, load UT99!
Spread the word to all your gamer friends - at least remind them.
Yes, I've made copies (fits on 1 CD!) and given them to friends.
It's up to us to remind everyone how really great this version is.
