Re: Vent thread
Hey David, I put in a little over $2,000 in repairs and preventive maintenance on my 200,000+ mileage Toyota Camry last March. I have fully owned the car for several years already and love the car.
Hopefully my thought process will make you feel better. I figure an average new car payment to be around $400 per month. When you finance a new car you must maintain full coverage insurance as well and if you can't make your insurance or finance payment they can and will repossess your car. That all sounds bad and it is but if you do what I did then it isn't bad.
I sunk over 2 grand into fixing my car up which my car is only worth about $2,000 as is. I figured that the $2,000 I spent in repairs is the same if not less than 5 months of car payments being $400 a month X 5 months = $2,000. During that last 5 months I did not have to pay full coverage since I own my car already. Since I don't have to make payments on it nobody can repo it since it is already mine. Yesterday I hit the 5 month mark and so now each month I have my perfectly running car going forward I save $400 bucks a month + the money I would have had to spend on full coverage.
I figured all of that out before I ever took the risk on repairs on such an old (97 model) car with so much mileage (225,000 miles). I love my car. It runs great! I don't have to pay full coverage insurance. Nobody can repo what I already own. The car has been awesome this whole time and gets pretty good gas mileage too. Did I say it is fast? It is!
I hope you feel better but I bet you already knew all that you had to gain by keeping and fixing your old car. Good for you!

Re: Vent thread
Thank you Herm for the above post, that is the way I am looking at it.
Anyway.....why do I need enter my password and id into websites that I have checked to remember me after a power outage? I understand if I was CCleaner and wipe clean the cache/cookies and such, but a power outage? That annoys me.
I have APS as a power company. Second time this week that we had power outage due to their lines or transformers going bad. Do you think that they will give us credit for the time that we lost power?.......NO..but you can call them and request a form to complete for any loss (as food and such) and then mail that in to them and they will have an auditor review the claim and see if you get anything..

Internet Explorer 8...why? I was using IE6 since lately but I was advised that some sites will not be working on IE6 anymore so I needed update. I stayed with 6 fr so long since I did not like IE7, but was forced to this transition. Now I am on 8 and I am getting used to it, but I have so many

Stupid....stupid stupid. Anyways, that is my 2 cents.

I have Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 3.0.13 and I'm currently (kinda) fine. I'd like to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 but I'd personally avoid using IE 8 at the moment. I'm not sure whether to upgrade to Firefox 3.5 or not.

Re: Vent thread
It's official: my CD-RW drive is dead. After 7 long (for a laptop) years, it's time for an upgrade I guess.
What's the problem then? Well, of course I need to buy a new laptop, but I'd like to have WinXP as the default OS, since my printer, my mouse, my ADSL modem and everything else do NOT support WinVista; pity it's almost impossible to find a brand new laptop with WinXP pre-installed. There's a remote chance I can get one with a DVD for XP downgrade, but again I should check and find the XP drivers, since the new laptops are not built to run WinXP.
I could buy a desktop PC, but I need a laptop for some reasons.
Why can't we have new laptops sold with the old WinXP? Why don't they add some sort of backward compatibility to the newer OS?
P.S. I know there are also WinXP Netbooks, but their hardware specs are ridiculous.

The great wisdom of the POTS!!!!!!!!!
I know so many people that just can´t understand that simple statement.
Yes POTS, it´s frustrating how you´re kind of forced to buy software you may not want. Downgrading is difficult due to drivers and some devices that are not built for previous windows versions. What you could also do is to either wait for the new Windows 7 (that seems to be more stable, faster and safer than Vista) or download and alternate operating system, like Linux (check for Kubuntu).
It´s called sales strategy. You have to buy as much as you can afford, or more (welcome credit cards!), and you gotta feel the necessity of possessing these new items.*POTS* wrote:IWhy don't they add some sort of backward compatibility to the newer OS?
But I can live with that. The thing I really hate is driving in this city. I guess it´s part of living in a huge, disordered and chaotic city. Public transportation (buses and taxis) are mainly informal and they don´t respect the transit reglamentation, they´re temerary and completely uneducated (reminding me at everytime that this is a 3rd world country) . I cannot stand using the public transportation because it sucks so I have to drive; however, when I drive, I expose myself (and the people I´m with in the car) to an incident due to these public transportation drivers.
I know it´s a major issue: it involves the huge problem of social inequity; but still, it´s making me crazy.

Re: Vent thread
This is not a vent, but a good (humorous) "venting" music. Funny
I think Herm and Gopostal would enjoy it. I listen to it when my kids are not around. Sorry about the title though.

I've known that song for many years. I used to go out back in the days and I with girlfriends in tow would follow this certain band around in Houston. That was one of the songs they played very well. The band is no more and that is how I'll end this reply and keep it within the realm of venting because I'm upset that I don't get to hear them sing anymore.

In tow because they were basically unwilling to go anywhere with me. I had to tie them off and tug them around everywhere. LOL.
