I am glad that it has served/serves you. Concerning one of your previous post about not being able to open up the 2007 document, did you get it opened?

There is a Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. It will let you open 2007 items with use of this patch to your 2000 or 2003 office. The link is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

I have Office XP and my wife has 2007. I am able to open her documents so uses on 2007.

I'll give it a try thanks. :)
Anyway I'll try to stay away from Office 2007 cause I think of those "poor mortals" who can't open those newer files. As regards my file, I've converted it to a RTF one but I've lost some information such as tables during the process; however it was not really important.

[Edit]
Just one more thing: I've experienced a packet loss that ranged from 5% to 20% on some servers, I thought it could be the new Ethernet cable, I've switched back to the old one and everything seems to be ok now.

The Microsoft dictatorship strikes back!

What happened?
As you may already know, beginning on August 25, they started asking their customers using versions 8.1, 8.5 and 14.0 of Windows Live Messenger to upgrade to the newest version of Messenger.

Why?
The upgrade will provide customers with the latest software updates including code fixes and feature enhancements, as well address vulnerabilities discussed in the Microsoft Security Advisory 973882 that existed in previous versions of Windows Live Messenger.

What's wrong with that?
The Second Phase, Mandatory Upgrade:
The mandatory upgrade will happen in three stages:
Starting mid-Sept., all customers using Messenger 8.1 or 8.5 will be required to upgrade their version of Windows Live Messenger.
Starting late Oct., all customers using Messenger 14.0 will be required to upgrade their version of Windows Live Messenger.
To ensure that we are protecting customers, those who do not administer the upgrade will not be able to sign in to Messenger after this time.

So let's upgrade, it won't hurt that much...
Windows Live Messenger 2009 has higher system requirements, an ugly layout, and comes bundled with a boatload of useless crap, but at least you can choose not to install the Windows Live Essential stuff.

The joke part of the End User License Agreement
Since they take care of their customers and they listen to them, they offer you the chance to agree on acquiring information about your system and the way you use the software, but you're not allowed to see what kind of information they're actually collecting.

My own final considerations
They say they force you to upgrade because of some "vital" vulnerabilities of the previous version, well why don't they make a patch or hotfix or a freaking Service Pack for those who enjoyed the older versions or try to use the same layout of the older versions also for the newer one???
You don't deserve to collect any data you [censored]

P.S. I forgot, they've also removed the download of the older versions from the Microsoft website so they're sure you cannot downgrade and you're stuck with the newer version. Yay! Image

What's next
All users of Windows XP will be forced to upgrade to Windows Vista or they won't be able to surf the Web because of those 1x1 pixel invisible GIFs that could possibly hack your System Registry.

OR

All Mozilla Firefox users will be forced to use Internet Explorer 9 so the poor advertisers will continue to spam their websites with annoying Flash things and pop-ups / pop-unders / pop-backstabbers

OR

All Linux users will be forced to use Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit so the manufacturers will be able to continue to produce PCs and Laptops with 16 GB of RAM, OctaCore processors and VGAs with 1 TB of dedicated VRAM.

What I despise about MSN and it's new crap is that they don't give you a way to turn it off unless you log-in and select it through the preferences to not start up with Windows. Granted, I know how to avoid this issue but millions won't know what to do except to log in or uninstall. Crappy on Microsoft's part to not give you an option.

OK I've had enough of WLM 9. I've just found out that it requires another process named wlcomm.exe in order to run, and this freaking useless process virtually doubles the total amount of required RAM to run WLM.

For those who are interested I've found a workaround to let you use the old WLM 8.5:
- Create a shortcut to Windows Live Messenger on your Desktop
- Right click on it
- Select "Properties"
- Now select the "Compatibility" tab
- Check the "Run in compatibility mode" box
- Select Windows 2000
- Click on "Apply"

In this way they won't bother you to upgrade to WLM 9, since the upgrade is not meant to be mandatory for Windows 2000 and earlier versions of the Windows OS.

The problem is that if you have also MSN Live Plus installed it will stop working (as well as other add-ons I guess), since they won't recognize the right installed version of Messenger any more.
There's a more complex workaround for this, if you're interested PM me.

Great research, POTS-O!

While we're on the subject of Microslop, the company I work at stores scanned documents that are accessed thousands of times a day by claims adjusters.
They are opened by MS Office Document Imaging (MODI).
M$ just deployed a security "patch" that breaks the file association between .TIF files and MODI.
Pull up a scanned doc and Windows freaks out.
M$ says that there is a vulnerability with opening .TIF images and has no plans to reverse their "patch". Also subsequent patches will continue to break this file association.

I guess it's job security, but, to quote Hook, "GAD-Zooks" - I have more important things to do at the office than reassociating files with MODI.

So, if you can no longer open a TIF file, be prepared to re-choose a program every month!

Oh yeah!
Only some new flash apps and gadgets don't work but it isn't bad.
Other than that it works very well.

Well this seems the best thread for it...

I'm playing on UMH with MinderBinder, we have fun in hebereke and move onto JurassicPark where he miniguns every cow he sees.
Eventually I say that's a funny way to play and we have a small argument (man stfu don't tell others how to play).
Eventually I decide I was wrong, I say it quite a few times along with pointing out the irony in me complaining about killing innocent creatues while I'm hunting down survivors for score. I say I was wrong about 5-6 times...
And suddenly he leaves without saying bye.

Why can't some people finish an argument on good terms?
The other guy saying he was wrong several times is usually a good thing, but no he decided to sulk...Jesus...
What's the point in knowing when you're beaten when people ignore you backing down? :|

It's MSN crapping things up. Don't blame the hardware.
There are a lot of things about MSN that I make sure to uncheck during install.
They're too quick to assume they know what you want to do BEFORE you do it.
Windows Live blah blah blah. Just give me MESSENGER! THAT's ALL!!!
If you go into Control Panel / Add Remove Programs, there are probably a handful of Windows Live things you can remove. You will need to keep Windows Live Essential, Sign in Assistant and One Care Safety Scanner.

Also, in Messenger, go to Tools / Options / Sign-In and uncheck Automatically Run and Show Windows Live Today.

I hope that'll make things a little less annoying for ya.

Oh, and Adobe products think they have a right to take over too. Don't get me started on them!

I always viewed the unarmed creatures as a challenge to NOT SHOOT.

It's like the paper targets at the shooting range with a thug holding a hostage.

The idea is to excercise control and hit only the bad guy.

I vaguely remember a map or two where the Map End would not reveal unless you killed a couple of Nali Priests but that is an exception.

Only lame thing about the new MSN is the lame Safety Scanner.
If you download something from someone (for example a song) the safety scanner first scans the file for about 24 hours and then it's finally done..
