I hope it was clear that I wasn't necessarily pushing religion.
I was pointing out that people are tired of the amoral status quo, and that is why they are flocking back to the churches. People know that they can get a good moral grounding from the teachings in a church, which of course is a church's whole "raison d'etre" (reason for being).
I was also trying to imply that the old established churches are still, regrettably, seen as part of the status quo, which is one reason perhaps, why the evangelicals are thriving.
I am on a bit of a spiritual journey myself. It's not surprising, I have reached that age where you want to start pondering these things.
Books I've read over the last year or two:
What the *bleep* do we know!? Based on the film of the same name, the book is
much better. It discusses how and why science and religion parted ways, and how they are moving toward one another again. Science has apparently come to the conclusion that there is an intelligence behind the very working of the universe itself. Read the book to find out why they think so. There are also many other ideas covered.
Inspiration by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Yes, he's the guy you see on PBS during pledge drives. This is his best book of the ones I have read. I liked this one so much that I bought my own copy instead of borrowing it from the library yet again.
The Pagan Christ by Tom Harpur. This could be a very upsetting book to read for Christians. Very carefully written for the layman, I still had to read it 3 times to get the most I could out of it. You must read it all the way through to the end to get the full value of what he is saying. I also bought a copy of this book, so that I could read it whenever I like instead of waiting my turn at the library.
My apologies to David for high jacking his thread. I now turn it back over to the original subject.
