The answer is 109...
The question was how hot was it in Houston today?
I watered my grass tonight at 10:30 PM and it was still 90 degrees. we're on city-wide water rationing too. I can only water on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 8:00 PM and 10:00 AM. Thus, I am still awake right now even though I worked today from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. I just love watering...
We have also set our record in Houston for the most consecutive 100+ high temperature days. I think we're at around 20 now. Fun!

Always remember, it is only so hot as it is directly in front of the air conditioner.

I was going to try to find a wise cracking video of a sprinkler system for you Herm.
Installing an automatic sprinkler system (which in most cases have a timer, valve box, sprinkler heads, and line) This way you can set it and forget it. Set it to make it fit for your restrictions.
A second option is getting a timer that you can put on your outside faucet that connects directly on to your hose and that it will turn on and off the water supply to your watering device as you set it. This works OK if you do not need to move the hose.
I like the first option myself. At my first house I had an automatic system installed. It was good. My second house, it was such a small yard I did not think it was worth the money so I ran pvc lines and 4 heads (then buried them) and then made a quick connect for a hose that is above ground that connects to the pvc line. So when I water the back yard now, I turn on the faucet and my grass gets watered. I have no sprinkler to move when watering or mowing the lawn. My hose stays connected to the sprinkler "system" for most part, but if I need the hose I just disconnect it by using the quick disconnect. It is easy and fast.

I'm supposed to think in Metric, so:
109-32=77
77/1.8=42.8
Owwwww.... Metric or U.S., that hurts. We were getting 42.8 temperatures only as a "humidex" reading, where the actual temperature plus the humidity makes it feel like 42.8 earlier in the summer. It's cooled off a lot now, and we're getting a more normal summer for this time of year. Warm to hot days and cool nights. Sweet!
I see if I ever come down there to visit you and deliver the cases of beer I owe you Herm, it is going to have to be in the early Spring or Fall seasons.
And speaking of lawn watering: We too had a nasty drought up here that lasted for weeks. Last year the town tore up the street and boulevards to replace the sewers and water mains. We all got nice new sod when it was done. But I guess it didn't have time to root itself too well because just about all of it along the whole street dried out and died. We all got caught out because every time is should have rained it didn't, and we were all hiding from that oppressive heat wave that was going on at the time inside our houses. So the new grass is dead, dead, dead. Oh well, in a year or two it will all be green again. Only with weeds and clover.

With my current house, we installed (had it done) an Auto Sprinkler system.
A good one with Industrial grade heads - they are Stainless Steel.
Best thing I ever did.
Saves money too.
Once in a while I spot water just for the fun of running a sprinkler again.
When the grandkids want to cool off and run through - I just manually turn on a zone for them - they love it because it really delivers!

Re: The answer is 109...
Heads are the important part. Don't get the standard plastic heads with adjustable spray. If you can get the metal/industrial fixed heads. If you get the adjustable heads, each time you mow the lawn, the wheels on mower might change the head settings. Fixed metal heads are the way to go.Hook wrote:With my current house, we installed (had it done) an Auto Sprinkler system. A good one with Industrial grade heads - they are Stainless Steel.

As Hook saud, it does save you money, and also on time.

A website that I have used to get the sprinkler heads I have is http://www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/ Fair priced and a better selection than that of stores around here.

Thanks for all of the suggestions folks. I especially like the one to lay the lines and install the heads myself and just hook up my hose to it and let her rip. Good idea!
