They outa abolish parties!
Nothing gets done in DC, or anywhere, when parties are butting heads and sabotaging any efforts to do good things by either.
We end up with mediocre laws and programs.

As someone pointed out on a TV program talking about the current fiscal mess a while back, the solutions are obvious but no one wants to face them. He pointed out that crushing austerity measures didn't work during the Great Depression, and that they won't work for a long period of time now either. Fiscal balance must be achieved yes, but he pointed out that history shows that the way out is through a gradual program of debt forgiveness. It's how the world got on with things after WWII. To expect countries devastated by war to pay off all of their debts was insane.

The only people that will lose out are those investors who are currently trying to make a fast buck making loans to countries at high interest rates. Wise investors have already limited their exposure and are ready for the write offs that must occur. They already made their money anyway, back in the days when interest rates were high. So they aren't going to lose much if anything, overall anyhow.

Actually AARP magazine that I get had the solutions to most of the fiscal problems the US is facing.
Social Security and the Deficit for sure.
Simple and FAIR solutions that would help most every US citizen and the retirement benefit for Social Security would go up at least 56%, and maybe even as much as 86%!
AS you say, many don't want to do the simple and FAIR solutions. for some reason.

Yeah. I know that about 47% of folks don't want to do anything about anything but don't tell them that or they'll get the media after me.

Got an hour to spend? Or half an hour? You don't need to watch the whole hour long program to get the point of the argument this fellow is making. But when this lecture was repeated on TV Ontario (our version of PBS) last Saturday I ended up watching the whole thing and felt enlightened afterwards.
