Post by Hermskii » Fri May 09, 2008 12:06 am

I just noticed that Service Pack 3 for Windows XP has been released to the public for several days now. I have updated the server and all is well so far. CYA!

Hermskii are you saying you updated your computer with sp3?
cuase if you are, then can you tell me hows it working, ive been thinking bout upgrading, but there are so many problems out there with it already!
Blue screens of death, system nonstop rebooting, and much more. :?
How many computers do you have? did you up for all of them or only your server one?

Sorry for so many questions but i dont want to download it and go through all that restarting and blue screen of death crap lol.

Warning

Post by Hermskii » Mon May 19, 2008 9:33 pm

WARNING! Yes, I did update the server with total success but the next several computers I have tried to updated failed. None of them are broken but one actually said something like this to me:

XP SP3 is installing
XP SP3 identified and issue and will back out the installation.
XP SP3 partially installed.
Unable to completely uninstall XP SP3. Windows XP may not function correctly.

I'm serious! That happened to me! That particular PC is doing fine still but I don't feel good about that PC anymore.

I suggest staying away from XP SP3 for about another month or so and then try it. Maybe Microsoft will figure out what went wrong and fix it.

I have another PC that it failed to install on and now each time I boot it , it tells me it needs to be installed. I tried again and it failed again. No solution to fix it in site either.
~Peace~

Thank you, yes i have heard a lot of stuff so far.
I will search a little more for your problem, from what i read it seems to work or not work depending on what you had on the computer before you installed sp 3.

it seems a major percent of the people with xp pro cant install sp 3 without problems, even though microsoft says it should work fine!

im running sp2 right now, yes im going to give it a little while and see what comes up.

--thanks again for the response herm

EDIT
Said why instead of while lol

It is a smart practice to only use service packs if a problem warrants it.
Don't fix something until it breaks.

Hmm havent heard many problems about sp2, but thats probably because its been out for so long now.
for those of you with sp3 are there even any noticeable differences?

Well I guess just about everyone knows this by now, but it seems that for the most part SP3 went onto Intel computers ok, but had major issues with AMD processors.

Has there been a fix for AMD PC's yet? :?:
