Stamps
Yes, they have stamps that you can used to stamp in the serial number on the bike but they will cost more than the bike I bet. You could always mark the bike in hidden places and note where they are in your notes. Maybe just make a certain identifying mark on the bike and take a picture of it with a cut out of the date from a newspaper next to it.
Lo-Jack! You could try to put one of those on but I think it would take away from the theme of the bike.
Last and best idea is to buy a simple engraver. It is the size of a very small drill and has a vibrating tip that chisels into just about anything lightly. Back when I was a mechanic, it was routine for mechanics to put their initials on every single socket and tool that a person owned.

Good advice Hermskii.
I've been riding cross country and down hill for over 25 years and there are a number of ways to identify or mark your bike.
Engraving is always nice but it's just as easy to erase or scratch out what you wrote using an engraver.
But what my nerd bike friends do, mainly because they are riding $5000 bikes, is to engrave names or initials inside the frame.
For example inside the seat post stem, bottom bracket or headset and then take some pictures.
I on the other hand only have 4 somewhat secret marks on both my bikes. But at the same time I do keep my bikes in the house if I'm not riding them.
Now...I don't think your daughters bike is on the expensive end but at the same time it is very important to her.
My advice, similar to Hermskii, is to mark it somehow that only you and your daughter know about...and preferably somewhere on the frame and definitely take some pictures. Remember that components can be changed but frames last forever.
Funny story:
If you're familiar with bikes, my buddy use to mark the inside of his rims/wheels with info, he would also place a mark under the saddle/seat and also engrave his name on the post of his Ellsworth Moment. Well, like I said components are replaceable on bikes so it was a $3000 lesson when his bike was stolen.
Anyway, does anyone else here ride? My newest bike is a Giant Trance X2....great bike for cross country.

I ride my bike everywhere. I never drive.
You might want to just not bother with the trouble of marking the bike.
Wallmart bikes are "though just fine for children" bottom of the barrel.
They are also inexpensive.
But if you are determined to mark up something , the engraver is the best idea. They run 10$
Police told me if you engrave your driver license # you can get the bike back if the thief pawns it.
Just engrave it on the very bottom underside where the serial # is usually stamped. Right underneath the cranks.
